HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Good morning. Very little work done this week.
The yard lifts for the main mast yards where done. The only interesting point is that these belay differently to the Mizzen.

I used my protractor method to attempt 90• to the mast and hopefully they lined up with the Mizzen yards.

Fore view and aft view- I got them pretty square. Happy:)

Almost to the highest rigging points of your gorgeous vessel, Grant. Impressive!
If your house is built level and square, then your Victory is also.:)
Regards, Peter

True story Peter. Totally agree it is a magic sport - you get everything. Mountains, views, fresh air, exercise, adrenaline, some ouch's once in a while and time with friends and family. Clearly I'm still trying to find the limit after many years of riding...ROTF. Cheers Grant
Not totally comfortable with all these "brushing the asphalt" stories. Last year I unfortunately saw my Admiral hitting the asphalt head on, literally, while doing no more than 20km/h. Concussion, skull cracks, a nasty head wound and a severely damaged bike were the results.
So I rather stay on my bike in an upright position, nowadays with a helmet secured to my head.

Looks like a true plumb and square ship Captain!
I think this is on of the more accurate descriptions of this model. ROTF
Thanks Peter, Daniel and Johan. I was concerned I wouldn’t get these square, as each time I tensioned the yard would shift. Took a while.

Everything is beautifully squared my friend. That is a job exceptionally well done!

Thanks Heinrich- I now get when guys spend an hour tying off one line to a belay pin etc- iI need to rethink my method as it is just going to get more complicated here on in.
Beautiful, detailed work!
Thank you Paul. I’m getting some detail in, I just have to learn to get the quality better. Cheers Grant

Apologies guys- I confused myself:eek: Totally misleadingly sequence of photos. I painted my bling. It frustrated me having brass molding above the gunports. Special thanks to Paul @dockattner for giving me a push in this direction. It took a while as I had to sand with emery on a small stick, apply a primer, a coat of rust-o-lean paint and then my acrylic I use for my Victory.

Thanks @Thomas ,@Peter Voogt, @Jeff T @GKIP @RDN1954 (spot on Johan :) ) for your comments.
Cheers Grant

This morning I tensioned and tied off the main topmast and topgallant forestays.

I hope not a confusing post again ;)

Topmast fore stays:
Run from the 2 mouse around main topmast.

The main topmast stay running end goes through a pendant lashed to the foremast just below the top. The lanyards lash this to a copper eyelet on the deck just behind the foremast through another pendant.

The topmast preventer running end goes via a 5mm block between the top and the cap of the foremast and tied off similarly to the starboard eyelet on the deck.

The main topgallant forestay runs from the hounds to the foremast Via a 3mm block on the topgallant tresses. It is secured via lanyards running through a pendant on the crows nest. (as mentioned previously the tie off system is not accurate due to Mantua crows nest design.)

I have attempted to take photos of these stays however the ship is large and I had some difficulty. Here are some :
