Hello everyone,
It’s hard to believe that it has been three years since I first started this post. At that time I had grand plans to build the L’Amarante. As I moved forward, I realized that my skills did not measure up to my ambition. I find it somewhat embarrassing to re-read my posts. Never the less, I have not given up the idea of building the L’Amarante. Being a member of this great group has helped me to improve my skills greatly. I still consider myself a beginner at ship building, but I am getting better. I greatly appreciate all of the help and guidance I have received over the time I have been.
So I have been planning to restart my plans for the L’Amarante. The most important consideration I made was the size of the ship. The original plans are 1:36 scale. Over time I have come to realize that this is too large of a ship for me to build in my shop. Also, I will no place to display a ship of that size. That being said, I have ordered and received the 1:48 scale plans from ANCRE. As in the past, I have received great fast service from ANCRE. At this scale, the hull will be about 56cm. That will be a more manageable size for me. I have a good supply of cherry wood, but I will need the get some additional wood.
I am still going to be building my Charles Morgan in conjunction with the L’Amarante. I am retired, but my wife still works full time. This gives me lots of free time.
As you can see from the picture posted below, the 1:36 scale version is (to me) a very large model. I think at 1:48 scale it will be a much more manageable project.
