L'Artésien 1764 - 64 Kanonen-Schiff in 1:48 nach Plänen von Jacques Fichant

Hi,
you're doing a really great job.
I hope that while your wife is working on the model ship, you're taking care of the household. ;)

Hello everyone!

Johann @archjofo, admittedly, I was keeping a close eye on your work ;)

The internal sanding is now complete. The first pictures show the sanding process until a uniform surface is achieved.

The small filler pieces between the frames were given their final shape to allow water to flow towards the keel. This was done using a Dremel tool, a 1mm milling cutter (right) and a 2mm round milling cutter (left, the finished shape).

The nostrils were also made at the same time. The measurements were transferred to each frame individually and produced using a milling cutter and square file.

That's all for now, and now I'm heading back to my shipyard.:)

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for your likes and comments. It really motivates me to keep going.

Now let's move on to the (two-part) keelson with its slurry sticks. These were milled according to the plans and installed after further adjustments to the ship. I spent a long time considering how to implement the bolt on this ship. A dark square piece of wood, 0.8 mm thick, for milling or cutting to size. I couldn't find any fiberglass square rods in these dimensions either. I have silver or brass wire available as square pieces, but I want to keep the bolt dark this time, which also rules out bluing it later. So I decided to use a steel sheet cut to size and carefully press it into the wood, where the square hole will be filled with wax. I adopted the bolt arrangement from the French 1:36 scale build log.

Thus, this work is also completed, and I can once again fully dedicate myself to the rear design.

Looks good Andreas - I too wanted a darker bolt as well on my build. However I just used nickel square wire on the hold planking in the hopes it will tarnish over time

This could be a great idea to use to simulate treenails - I may have to experiment with this technique.

Thank you so much for your kind comments, I really appreciate them.

Brad, I scraped off the excess wax with a chisel and then vacuumed it up. After that, I went over the wood again with steel wool. So far, I haven't noticed the remaining wax penetrating the wood fibers. Before each use, I "polish" the wood with fine 600-grit sandpaper to ensure a clean, smooth surface.

Andreas

Wishing you all the best for your birthday, have a wonderful celebration with friends and family and enjoy yourself.

Hello everyone!

Working on the stern construction initially slowed me down considerably and cost me many hours of thought and experimentation to figure out the best approach. Ultimately, I found a good solution. Certain build reports here and in other forums were also very helpful. The outer stern supports were made with an oversize to allow for later adjustments on the inside and outside. I hope they fit in the end, as the plan only shows a perspective view of them, and therefore the extended shape has to be measured using certain intersection points. Here are the first pictures of the stern...
