Le Saint Philippe 1693 after Jean-Claude Lemineur (Ancre) in scale 1:48

Hello Friends,

Just over four months ago I began work on the decks of the Saint Philippe. Today, quietly and with little fanfare, that phase of construction came to an end. I not sure what I expected, exactly, but I can say that the results are very satisfying. The opportunity to see the details of the woodwork that went into building this magnificent ship is pretty special.

While this final deck is much simpler than other decks - I still gave it my best effort:

I am always grateful that you would take the time away from your own builds to visit me here. I'll be back after a short break.

Onward!

Congratulations for this milestone, Paul. Very nice work (as always). And good to see your new related avatar.
Regards, Peter

Congrats Paul - you should be proud - your results rank with the best of them ! What you have accomplished with a very difficult subject with a confusing monograph is no small feat.

Hi Paul,

It has been a pleasure to witness your attention throughout this build. I can say that I have never watched a build come so perfectly together.

Bill
Thanks for the nice post, Bill. What you don't see are all the strategic and interpretive mistakes I make along the way. Understanding ship's plans is not something I am trained to do so there is a lot of fumbling about before sawdust appears.

As an aside, because I processed my own wood for this project, I am sad to see it wasted. To that end I don't build something until I understand it - though there have been plenty of times those intentions weren't realized.

By the way, @CLB, I reached out to Rare Woods and they boarded out some swiss pear for me. I ordered more than I suspect I can use in this present lifetime - so if you are in need I'm just up the road. I also chose a few planks of buxus macowanni that I will process into billets this summer. It's not sempervirens but it's close. Just trying to be neighborly :). Plus, my kids will think its firewood when I'm gone...
