You're no dummy Vic! I've seen your bookcase!!!Thanks, Gilbert. I was quoting someone from Model Ship Building for Dummies for the size of treenails for ships at 1:74. So the .4mm would be close for our Soleil. It’s a website I subscribed to because I’m a dummy. It cost me $45. The only problem with the website is it originates in Canada and I think his native French gets in the way of explanations sometimes.
Who said I’ve read all those? Perhaps I just collect books as a hobby? You're no dummy Vic! I've seen your bookcase!!!
Hi JayWow Vic you are a busy builder. I thought I would show you my library of classic books. Shows where my head is at.View attachment 248563
Hey Gilbert,Hi Jay
Not sure what "sad Sack" is???
I haven’t seen Sad Sack in decades!Wow Vic you are a busy builder. I thought I would show you my library of classic books. Shows where my head is at.View attachment 248563
Yeah, my uncle died in ‘75 so it’s been 46 years.I haven’t seen Sad Sack in decades!
CoolHey Gilbert,
Sad Sack is a cartoon character my uncle created during World War 2. After the war he did comic books and cartoon series in newspapers till his death.
That ought to do it Vic. It seems all the decks had a curve to them. This ought to hold the deck down while the glue dries! The deck curves into a bit of an arch. View attachment 248962
I just bought these clamps. I was hoping they weren’t too heavy. I had to be careful how tightly I screwed them down. That ought to do it Vic. It seems all the decks had a curve to them.
It looks great VicBefore I could attach the front wall, I had to glue on the upper deck (29). Before I could do that, I had to glue in its support (21). If anything is out of order, I have to tear everything apart. Now I have to find some styrofoam to put behind the lower chase guns. The supplied gun boxes won’t fit behind the façade. Thanks, G!It looks great Vic
Hi VicNow I’m looking at the gun ports and scratching my head. There’s no room for the gun support boxes. The bulkheads are in the way. I’ve gone back over Mr.Deep’s, paulb’s, and Gilbertm’s builds. All had to place boxes vertically or cut into bulkheads to make them fit. I may have to do both. Is that a design flaw? I’ve also noticed boxes won’t fit behind lower chase gun ports. I think I can cut them down a bit. If the guns stick out too far, maybe I’ll drill out the hole in the back of the support box so the gun can sit a little deeper.
What you say makes sense, but having to do so does not make sense.Hi Vic
Indeed, I had the same issue with the bulkhead.
I glued most of the boxes horizontally, so that the cannon is well centered.
However, I had to glue some of the vertically and in that case, have adjusted the size of the hole at the back of the box so that it is centered.
You better do that before gluing the boxes; otherwise, the box may fall if you do it once the hull is completed.
Makes sense?
