Le Soleil Royal ZHL Build Log [COMPLETED BUILD]

I dry-fitted a decorative pillar with the shape of a woman next to the rear of the bell before building the bell. Do you have enough room on the right for her with your bell? I'm finding I have to take a whole bunch of things into account before construction of some of these elements. The ornaments are especially giving me fits.
Vic, below a close-up picture of what I did
The ornament par above the sun aligns with the shape of the bell
Does this help?

That seems to fit well. I dry fitted that item and it seems to fit my bell. Pretty soon, I should be able to call it “ma belle.” Would the cornucopia window fit the other way? It’s difficult to determine left window from right. And thanks for the picture, Gilbert. It does help a lot!

Testor’s is a model airplane paint. I think it’s enamel. You use turpentine or mineral spirits to clean it. It’s better than anything I’ve tried so far and shinier. You need a base coat, though. Spray on paint makes a good base.

You should look at Sculpt Nouveau lone of products. In particular their metal B line. The have a complete line of products that say for metal coating however, they work great on wood. Any patina you would want and metal B line of mixed powder colors are excellent. some time ago I made a Steampunk style of clock with a metallic painted base and used their rust patina spray. Looks like rusty iron work

Good question. I've tried about everything. I've tried acrylic--too dull and wrong color. Spray paint--meh. I covered it all with shake-a-can spray, then painted with Testor's gold with a brush. Testor's is the only one that produces really shiny effect.
Just tried a couple of brush on acrylic from local hobby shop, don't like any of 'em either. Except for spray can or brush, I do not have my own sprayer. So, we are very limited.

In reference to the gold trim other than the castings, are you going to use the same technique of painting. Thank you.

Cool. Will look. Painting by hand takes a long time.

Have you taken into consideration the color of the lamps on the stern.? If you want them to match the trim or not?....plus, I see what you mean about those 4 castings that go under the stern around the stern chaser cannon. :(

I bent the castings using my vise. They did crack a bit. I didn’t have to glue them though. I’ve seriously thought about purchasing some lanterns from elsewhere. I don’t think I’ll like the kit lanterns. We’ll see after I try to put them together.
