Lemke-LeGrand 1:8 Mercedes-Benz 300SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé GullWing

What a great model Peter! I will be watching with rapt attention. I went to their web site, did the currency conversion, added the tariff, estimated shipping and ... well ... let's just say that if I got approval from the Admiral for this one, the honey-do list would be so extensive that I wouldn't have time to actually work on it.

I took a closer look at the exhaust on the "starboard" side. Imagine trying to climb out over that after a few hours racing on a hot day!

In that case Lemke-LeGrand has to paint the body in ‘gold’ for you, Russ. I am glad I made my order almost 1,5 years ago.
The tariffs are terrible for you guys.
Regards, Peter

Haha, Luckily it was not on the car during races. Only when driving on public roads. Then you better climb out on the port side (if possible ….).

After the intensive construction of the components on the Balder, time for some relaxation:
Group 1, steps 17+18.
The gearbox and coolant tank.

The gearbox will be photographed later; here's the tank with the hose:
049 Group 1, Step 18.jpg
The hoses are made of a nice material. Wire is braided into them so that a bend remains in that shape. This will become clearer later.

Group 1, step 19:
Distribution block with 4 hoses.

The drawings themselves are very clear. With the photos and video on the Lemke-LeGrand website, you can't go wrong.

From the distribution block, 2x2 hoses quickly branch off:

2 go up to a small tank. 2 continue further back to the gearbox.
The kit also includes thin wire to secure the hoses to the chassis. I just made a few more using wire from my stash.

The two on the gearbox:

The connections are nicely detailed and color-coded. The gearbox has a chassis support on both sides.

Group 1, step 20.
Fuel tank.

The assembly is quite ingenious, including two internal screws:

They've also made the welds stand out beautifully.

Group 1, steps 21+22.
The first 4 hoses, rear subframe, fuel filter, and spare tire supports.

The subframe wasn't mounted yet for this photo:

It took me a while to get this part in place properly. Several hoses each have their own route through this small piece of truss frame. They run through and over pipes.

Group 1, step 23.
The last 4 hoses.
057 Group 1, Step 23.jpg

I had to study a bit before I connected all 4 hoses properly. The photos and videos on the Lemke-LeGrand site were a welcome help. Right from the back:

Here I've lifted the rear end:

It's a veritable spaghetti of tubes.

This Group 1 contained 160 parts and had 169 bolts. (Just fun to keep track of ... ;))
