Location
Vienna, Austria
Yesterday evening I had the chance to meet one of our members Willi Meischl, alias @schifferlbauer ,
and some of his modeling friends in a small restaurant in Vienna.

They meet regularly once a month and most of them knows each other already centuries - so many thanks to them that they allowed me to join this group of very good modelers.

First of all a photo of us

from left to right: Willi Meischl @schifferlbauer , Adolf Achtsnit, Uwe Karl @Uwek , Peter Bauer and Tibor Pinter

Do not think, that drinking wine was the main subject, no, we talked around three hours about ships, history and especially the modeling activities

Tibor showed the hull and some details of his actual model of the Le Soleil Royal (scale 1:78) - he is in moment working on the head at the stem construction
Here some photos I made of his very accurate work

Peter showed us his actual work on carving on the Lion - figurehead, asking for further tips by Willi - the Lion will decorate his model of the HMS St. Albans (1764), a 64-gunner in scale 1:72
Conclusion of the discussion - the haircut of the Lion has to be adjusted

Once a month there is the come together of the modeling friends in Vienna. And I participated, together with Willi alias @schifferlbauer , Tibor and Peter.

We had some wine or beer, and were talking about ships and models - once more a nice evening and I enjoyed it very much sitting together with friends.

Peter showed the actual status of his improved Lion (1:72) of his HMS St.Albans - by the way much better than one month ago

Taking close look on Peter´s HMS St Albans - discussing a detail of the masting - maybe James Lees can help?

A very clever idea:
Peter turned the guns out of two parts, so he could install the main part already on the lower gun deck.
During construction and modeling works, he can close all the gunport-lids when all the front parts are not installed.
For representation (like yesterday) he can open the lids, push the front parts of the guns into the fixed installed part - finish.

Stefan is working on a 1:48 scale POF model of the HMS Royal George, with a very special way .... and the entire model in BOXWOOD
I had the chance to see the work on the I-Pad - Great - I will be able to show you his work more in detail in a new building log

temporary positive form in order to get the correct lines

This will get interesting ....... stay tuned

Many many thanks, Uwe for sharing with us this monthly Viena meeting. From your photo documentary and written storyline, it was enjoyable and very interesting. looking forward to the build log of Peter´s model of the HMS St Albans (1761). Thumbs-Up Thumbs-Up Thumbs-Up

Yesterday evening once more we had a glass of wine and talking once more about details of the ship models.
This time we were all together only four friends sitting together for some hours.
Here you can see Willi (on the right) discussing details of the mast elements of the HMS Saint Albans under construction by Peter (seen on the left)
And we realized, that James Lee´s book "The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War, 1625-1860" is definitely not showing all the details - more research work are necessary .......

The started building log of the model

Yesterday we had once more the chance to meet in our usual location for some hours.
All together we were six people talking about ships, modeling etc. once more a nice evening.

Peter showed us some photos of his ship, he started in the meantime the works on the masting and fixed already the complete lower masts with all standing rigging.
He could show us some of his ropeworks (sorry for the bad quality of the photos)

Yes, it was once more a very interesting and nice evening.

Today Markus, alias @mstritzl , visited me at my home, so we had some hours talking about ships
Markus is also a modeler and likes books about ships and history very much.
Living close to Vienna, so maybe a new candidate for our monthly meetings

And here the prove of our meet and greet afternoon in my workshop - I am the good looking guy, the other one is Markus ;)
