Hi everyone

Last year I started the project Montañes. Montañes is one of OcCre's largest ship model kits. The vessel was a Spanish 74-gun, 3rd-rate Ship of the Line that saw action at Trafalgar.

It is a 1/70 scale and measures 1250 mm overall lenght, 470 mm width and 895 mm height.

I'm now about to finish the hull, including hull and deck fittings.

I want to share some photos what I did so far.

Here they are : 1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg4.jpg5.jpg6.jpg7.jpg18813703_1804425853200824_4866408622199836813_n.jpg18814280_1804425896534153_4807775390881832653_n.jpg18881716_1804426079867468_5394310297244399844_n.jpg18952547_1808866906090052_7687049136349311684_n.jpg

Yes - please keep updating - very interesting to see this first rate growing

Bilal,

Got your message about gluing the lower deck cannons sooner rather then later. Good advice, I reviewed the plans and I can see that you'd need to reach in pretty far to get them glued in.

So - before I put on those grates and ladders I'll get those cannons in place. Thanks for the advice

You're wellcome Scottola. :)

Making gunports :

I used supplied parts to make gun ports. Simply glue the two parts each other and then paint them red.1.JPG2.JPG3.JPG

Nexy step is to bend the hinges.

Bending the port hinges a little bit harder.

I sacrifice two of my 1 mm drill bits as shown in the pictures.

And did thes process in two steps.

After bending, ports and hinges ready to be assembly.

For this process I prepared a template in order to assemble all the ports the same :

And assembled all 28 gun ports in the same way. :

And the result :

To drill the port holes I made two templates as the same way. I made two because port hole dimensions differ between upper deck and lower deckIMG_2612.JPG

And drilling process :

Then I blackened the guns with brass black solution. Result is much better than brass coloured guns. They are not glued now. I'll gule them after glueing the gun ports.

Assembling 8 guns on lower is a little bit challenging because of gratings and ladders. I wish I glued the guns before ladders and gratings. I took almost 2 hours just gluing then in their places in order not to harm the lower deck with quick drying glue. I used supplied metal gun carriages on lower deck. But I can say that they're not good. I'll use my own carriages on upper deckIMG_2731.JPG

And handrails glued.
