MY BLUENOSE- YUANQING SCALE 1:72 SCALE [COMPLETED BUILD]

Hello Ship Mates, , Not a very nice day at all yesterday in our Old Ship Yard, in our stern deck planking. We knew better but wanted to start the easy side first and started in the center. Yesterday we got down to the last 4 planks when we realized that the planks would not line up with ought adding a stealer and this would have looked out of place, to make this story short the little fellows and I completely tour off all of the applied stern deck planks. Today we start over.
Regards Lawrence

If you don't like it yourself, then this is (probably) the right choice. Hope to see soon the planking that passes your inspection.
Regards, Peter

That's too bad Lawrence!
I also started planking of the decks from the centerline, but I didn't need a stealer, so I'm afraid I'm a little lost here.
And unfortunately, if you're not satisfied with the results, there is only one remedy...

Hello Johan, Thanks for your kind words. The only thing I can think of and that is it looks like I held one end of my planks a bit to snug and with the planks being so many and so narrow it all caught up with me, Rebuild!
Regards Lawrence

Impressive Lawrence. It usually takes me several days to build up the courage to start over. Your experience is showing ;).
Hello Paul, Once I realized my mistake and seeing that I could not live with it there was only one way out Rebuild! Rely it is not all that bad as We have just laid it the fifth plank.

Oh boy - the number of times I did that! No worries my friend - you will succeed!

Hello Ship Mates, Yesterday the little fellows and I completed the planking on the port side of the hull, we also cleaned up the transom a bit but it dose need a little more work yet. Now it looks like we can begin the sanding and cleaning up the hull planks before we can begin a new adventure.

Regards Lawrence

Beautiful!

Hello Ship Mates, The little fellows and I have completed planking the fore deck. We found it a very slow progress between the plank nibbing and the narrow deck planks that are but a meer 3 mm wide and us being extra slow these days we have managed to complete this little task. There still remains a final fine sanding but we decided to leave this for now and move on to the aft deck.
Regards Lawrence

Good morning Lawrence. I have played some catch up here. Beautiful planking and I love the nibbling pattern you used. Eish- “ripping” off the stern deck…. I appreciate your willingness to do major redo’s, the waterways and now the stern deck, but this is why your BN is exquisite.
I am wondering- who are the “little guys”?
Cheers Grant

Hello Heinrich, Thanks for your reassuring words. Yes I could not live with that boo-boo. Starting over from the outside this time, have found it much easier an a lot faster, could finish the aft deck today maybe!
Regards Lawrence

Hello Grant, Welcome to my build log log on the YQ-Bluenose. Yes as you can see The little fellows and I are not afraid of re-dos's. The waterways were more correct the first time but for some unknown reason I chose to follow the YQ instructions. The aft decking- well to be truthful I was looking for an easy way to do this, but it did not work out for me. Starting from the outside is much easer and faster.
Regards Lawrence

PS - So far I am very pleased with the redo's, The little guys are my inspiration or should I say my inter driving force.

Hello Ship Mates, The little fellows and I have completed installing the stern deck planking. My Admiral said that she is starting to look like a real ship now, We took that as a plus.
Regards Lawrence

That is nice planking, Lawrence. As I also wrote in my own build log in a answer to Jan, the Admiral's opinion is crucial.:)

Hello Ship Mates, This afternoon we made up 3 color test strips for the deck finish that will be coming soon. We tested Tung Oil, Minwax Putitan Pine # 218 and also Minwax Provinincal # 211. We gave each test strip a coat of Minwax Polyurethane Clear Semi Gloss and my Admiral chose the Tung Oil for the deck finish.
Regards Lawrence
