New on your bookshelf ..... show it here

Two weeks ago we took a short vacation on the Isle of Texel. Besides walking the dog on the beach I had some time to actually read some books and as my admiral said "Idle hands are the devil's workshop" so I could not contain myself and went shopping around for books and besides the mentioned books in some of my earlier posts I was happy to find an affordable copy of "The Willem van de Velde Drawings in the Boymans van Beuningen Museum". The first book contains text, the other 2 books the drawings.
Although published in 1979 this set of books in slipcase looks brand new.

No probs Uwek, Yes I am still looking for a decent priced "Restoration Warship" by Richard Endsor and also "Warships for the King" - Ann Wyatt

My copy of The Restoration Warship is now almost 2 weeks underway. It was decent priced and shipping remarkably affordable via Alibris from US. But you have to be patient - now that is a quality that we can practice with our hobby.

Yes I am aware of that, there are a couple of sellers of this book in the U.S. but unfortunately the postage to here in the U.K. is about £60 which is more than the book(£50) also items coming from the U.S. to the UK always seem to be met by customs charges as well so to get this book at present would cost me £110 plus custom charges. So there is no chance of myself buying anything from theses sellers or from the U.S.
Like you I will be patient and hope 1 day I will be able to purchase it at a reasonable cost.

Hello everyone, three “new” books have arrived. HMS Diana found on Amazon €26.97 came from Texas, The Masting and Rigging of English Ship was also on Amazon came from Boston for €67.09 and last but not least The Ashley Book of Knots €56 EBay came from London. Some people ask why do you need books about English ships when you build French ships? Well because the next project will be something English.

And no it won't be the HMS Diana, it's just for research.

I too do this, buy lots of books mostly for research and not necessarily for my next or a build. I love the detail within each different ship and especially the plans that go with them.

The book "The restoration Warship" by Richard Endsor arrived today. Just as informative as his book "The Master Shipwright's Secrets".
