NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

Well I got tired of sanding and filing the frames! So hull fairing is on hold while I make a crown for the Lion.
He was complaining he is a king, and therefore needs a crown. So I must comply! :p
It’s hard to see the detail right now, but it’s starting to take shape. I’m hopeful it’s going to turn out nice.

Looking good, Dean. Nervous, those cutouts. How far do you dare to go? The more open, the more beautifull. :)
Regards, Peter

On the subject of the lion. You had better tell this lion that he must leave you alone until you finish the fairing and the planking. As things stand now the lion has to understand that he is King of a framework, not a ship! ROTF

Ok…this is the look I was after…gold crown, painted darker in between…

I started with the carving…

Then I painted red in the dark areas…

Then I added all of the raised jewels and the cross on top. Then painted gold.

Here is the supplied figurehead and crown…

And here is what I have so far with the new crown added to the carved Lion…

And finally on his throne…

He still needs a hatchet, but I think he can wait a while. ;)
Also I still have to make the slot deeper, so he will sit lower on the keel. But that’s much later in the build.

I have no words to tell you how good that looks. It is stupendously excellent! ThumbsupFirst Place Metal Now I have a friend who can paint AND I have a friend who is an expert in carving - and to save on transport costs, they both live at the same address!

Seriously Dean, that is just beyond belief!

Thank you so much Heinrich! It’s not a masterpiece, but I’m very happy with it, as it’s a vast improvement over the crown that “was” on the Lion. ;)

Not outstanding but on top of it all!!!! Excellent micro-carving. Rich

Agree with the other guys here - outstanding Now the Lion goes back in his cage and you back to fairing your bulkheads??ROTF...
OkayAs said in various ways; a very worthy figurehead, but....
This Lion is a very picky ruler and will find, without a doubt, something else needs to be done, prior to getting essential modeling (sanding, forming, planking) moving again. Think getting the King's nails sharpened, his teeth whitened, his hair redone, name it... ROTF

Marvelous!! I would hold off on the hatchet for a while as we see already one band aid on your finger.

Thanks Johan! But I really needed a break from fairing the hull! ;)
