NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

I decided to add red to the rails on the beaks head. The vertical supports will be gold with red squares inside. All gold just looked too plain IMO.

I still have work to do. I am going to trim away some of the black vertical support behind where the rails end, and finish shaping the top. I will address that when I finish the rails on the other side.
Meanwhile the Lion is feeling his oats! ROTF

Well with that lion in sight, there will be not sleeping tonight in the jungle!

Had you thought of a dab of black or red in center of eyes to make the glare stand out just a bit?
If you look closely there is a tiny hole in the center of the eye, that is black. ;)
If you remember, he used to be a laughing Lion! ROTF

Hi Dean. I had to read a lot a pages after my Scotland trip. You have done a lot of work. You made a ‘great-thing’ with those gratings and ladders. And your Lion …….. he is smiling more and more …… now you are back on track.
Regards, Peter
Thank you Peter! Hope you enjoyed your Scotland trip, riding your motorcycle.
I think the Lion is still smiling under his growl. ;)

Thanks Paul! No two are exactly alike, but I can live with that! :p
I think I’m more afraid of making rope, than I am carving…lol. But you and Daniel have set the bar! ;) So when the times comes to start rigging, it looks like I am going to learn!

Dean. I’ve just had a sneak view of page 97. What a great job you have done. Your posts are truly amazing and very helpful What stain did you use on hull as I’m getting close to starting that? Are there more pages after 97 ?

Thank you Ronaldo! 97 pages is it so far. And so much more to do!

On the hull, I painted from the water line down with Valspar satin interior paint, water based Ultra White.

Above that to the lower wales I used FX brand satin flexible acrylic paint in Black.

The stained area of the hull is Varathane water based Golden Oak.
However I used a process to create an aged look. I first put on the stain liberally. then I scraped it with a razor blade carefully, holding it perpendicular to the boards. This left most of the stain in the wood grain. And it's easier if you do that before the stain fully cures, that way it rolls off the surface as you scrape. Then I added stain again, but less, and used steel wool and fine sandpaper to lighten everywhere except in the crevices and edges. This is subjective, as you can sand until you get the tone you are happy with. I wanted the contrast, but a light to medium overall tone. Hope that helps... and makes sense. ;)

Thanks. Dean helpful. I wanted to get a similar look to your deck which I really like and a great job.
But I took some advice from a model shop and sealed the main deck. Then sanded 2 grades then matt varnish. ( I had used cotton as caulking not a bad job for my first go around ). But my deck looks more like a new yacht than an old ship. I’m also told by same shop I now cannot now use a water based stain on top (from your advice ) I still have the other decks planked and in place but without treatment. Apart from sealing and sanding. Have you any rectification ideas to rescue main deck and what I could do to ther decks. I hope this is not to long
