October, 21st - The Main Event

Wow!!! - all it needs are extra third party supplied proper ropes, many 100s of, again, proper third party, wooden blocks and custom made sail material.
Otherwise IMO -still the RR of Victory kits - and for kit bashers "a dream come true" The opening starboard side is a brilliant addition to this kit Kudos to you AL --
I would also purchase the lights and the offered figures. and the above mentioned third party replacement ropes and blocks.

Artesania - how about a preview look at your book of instruction??

PS: all the 100s of guns and their carriages are Spot On!!!! as well as almost everything else in the fabulous kit. Congrats to your team...

Regards,

Regards,
They have a summary of the instructions on the web site.

Congratulations with your new kit. This is certainly something new on the market allthough still a Victory.
But I expect Victories are the vast majority of the market and you therefore should have one and this one is al least unique.

We love big scale ships, but imagine our Trafalgar collection of Santisima, Santa Ana, Victory, Nepomuceno and those that could come at a bigger scale.
Very few people would have enough space to even think about it.

I would be very interested to read about the design process that led to this model. How many people were in the team? Their qualifications? How many hour’s work over how many years? How much of the kit price is paying for all that research and development?

While I understand that commercial secrecy must be maintained, I would happily buy and read a full sized book about the creation of a model like this.

My sentiments exactly. Maybe AL can leave these out and offer them as an option so buyers can have an option to buy high quality rope, blocks and realistic sails from aftermarket suppliers rather than use these lower quality items in the kit.

:oops: What! But! What? How? Look! No! But! Oh! (speechless)

~~~~~~~~~~
The little boy inside me is screaming “I want THAT for Christmas!”
The stern father in me replies “It’s too big a project for you. You’d never stick with it. And you keep telling me Victory is boring because everyone does it.”
The indulgent mother in me says “Oh why not, if it makes you happy, have it!”
~~~~~~~~~~

The sensible adult in me says:

That is a remarkable achievement by AL. I’ve rarely seen anything so impressive. There’s an entire wooden world in that box.

There’s also a lot of repetition, all those guns for example and I don’t enjoy things like that. I personally think the ship is a very ugly vessel, not something like a clipper or a xebec that I’d fall in love with.

The simplified framing and laser engraved decks are an artistic compromise for sure but perhaps that balances the repetition aspect? I wouldn’t be spending a year of build time planking decks?

This model perhaps provides the beauty of wood construction with the intricate interior detailing available in top end plastic armour kits. I don’t see any plastic though, which is good. Guns should be metal in my opinion! Is it the best of both modelling worlds?

€1300? Is that a consideration. Not really. I’ve got the money, honey, and I’ve certainly got the time. Having seen the unboxing and an outstandingly well built one in AL’s videos, I think that is a fair price. And if I buy it, drool over it for a few years and ultimately never build it, my children can sell it for a lot more than that.

As you can tell, I’m torn. I can’t make up my mind. There’s a lot of fear of missing out going on too. How many will be available and for how long?

I’m perfectly balanced on the very sharp knife edge between YES and NO and it’s painful up here! However, I’m not asking for advice, encouragement, injunctions or permissions. It’s my decision to make.

~~~~~~~~~~
Stepping back a little I find that this is just a toy. We all take our hobbies seriously but let’s remember, it’s only an entertainment, a source of pleasure. It’s not important like food, shelter etc. The decision should be easy.
So what I have to ask myself is “Would I ENJOY buying, owning, possibly building this kit OR would it ultimately bring net frustration and regret? And either answer must be a guess.
Again, it’s only a toy. For goodness sake, I’ve proposed marriage to people with less thinking about the consequences! (With disastrous results though ROTFROTF) I have bought big kits before and later regretted the impulse when I’ve messed up or lost interest and finally trashed them.
The little boy and the indulgent mother say YES.
The stern father says No
The adult, who is determined to have the casting vote and make a decision based on real life experience and self knowledge says…
There's free postage and 5% off if you sign up to their marketing. 5% of 1300 is a lot!
To get a better feeling - you have to transfer the figure into Pund sterling, which will make the kit even cheaper
it is only 1.083 GBPs - and this reduced by 5% - > close to 1.000
=> this sounds much much better than the 1.300 you mentioned before
but independent of this
It is looking like a kit which is worth the money
Thanks Uwek, that's something I hadn't taken into consideration.
And I agree, it looks like good value for money to me. Divide £1000 by the 3000 (?) hours of building time and it's as cheap as chips!
