Sorry, but this suggestion seems very Chinese. It would suit a junk.
Something more restrained would be needed here, something that takes up the design language of the Norsemen.

Well, the Viking longboats were called 'dragon ships' (drakuskippan by the Franks) so the motif seems appropriate if not the artistic stye.

What I find interesting about these Viking boats is the low freeboard. They sailed these things on the ocean. They must have been bailing full time to keep from sinking.
I have ordered cat chews to distract Fernano.
The artist seems to like them.

First time I've come across this fabulous build, a splendid job.
I have no issue with the builders choice of supports; that's up to him.
These boats would have been sealed with 'Stockholm Tar', which can vary in colour, though often quite dark.
Most period sailing ships had the standing rigging treated with it, hence the black we're used to.
It's worth pointing out, treenails weren't used on the planking, they were fitted together using iron nails/rivets, which stood out, not flush.
