So I ran into a problem with my main deck planks not lining up,you can see the attached photos. So I decided to move all the deck planks back and just add a short length of plank to the front of the plank. I was able to do this with all the planks except the last two. So I sanded off laser etched planking and treenails and just burned some new ones. I think it came out pretty good.IMG_6515.jpegIMG_6517.jpegIMG_6518.jpegIMG_6519.jpegIMG_6520.jpegIMG_6521.jpegIMG_6522.jpegIMG_6523.jpegIMG_6524.jpegIMG_6525.jpegIMG_6526.jpegIMG_6527.jpegIMG_6530.jpegIMG_6529.jpegIMG_6528.jpeg

That is an ingenious solution, and looks great! I hope my kit has the right plates, as I don't want to have to do all that extra work!
Thanks Freddie that’s what this forums about sharing ideas! I went a little overboard, you don’t need to extend the planks. The bow bulkhead will hide that section. My OCD took over. I would not be able to sleep at night knowing the PORT planks are shorter than the STBD

Don't let your OCD get you on plank treenails, as on any ship with planks there would be treenails at every frame all across the deck, not just at the ends of planks only. To look closer to correct you would need treenails in a straight row across all planks at each bulkhead shown.

Kurt Yes I am aware. Contemplated doing them all. This ship is done retro style. So that will be my excuse if I don’t them all.

Depending on the "HUE" your contemplating it takes a few sets of painting and sanding to get the look right. I finished all mine with three coats of MINWAX fast drying Polyurethane clear Satin. ( sanding with 320 grit between coats). I followed the directions on the rattle can for time between coats.

Good morning. The dye effect is effective. I have been following Jan’s build as well and this kit is wonderful. I agree with you about the dark shade. Your modelling is really precise - awesome job. Cheers Grant

So I spent a little more time on tinting. As I felt everything was a little too dark, I lightened it up and then used the oak stain as the final tinting. I left the areas that would be dirty such as in the corners and left areas lighter where sailors would walk more. It definitely makes it look more like weathered oak in my opinion. Looking for some opinions before I continue on the rest of the decking. Thanks for the looking.IMG_6763.jpeg

Thanks Grant I spent a little more time lighting up the deck. I am thinking it looks better. And so does the Captain.(wife) Since it will be displayed in the living room or den she has to like it too.
