sgtmik's HMS Blandford cross section build

Hi Mike, i have the same problem, getting ready to install MDB 2, and all the carlings, knees, ledges, but after that RIGHT NOW AM STUMPED AGAIN I TRIUED IT ON the lower deck framing did not work just a hard time getting the stuff to line up trying to increase notches while on the model creates a mess, again any sugestions on a alternative method please let me know. Don

Don: What I would do is fit all the carlings in place with the beams glued in place. Start with those between beam 1 and 2 on the lower deck. Don't glue the carlings in place, though. Line up the notches on the lodging knees opposite each other with a straight edge and mark the carlings for the notches. For the inboard ledges use the plans to measure the location of the ledge notches and draw them in. Take the carlings off the model to cut the notches, then replace the carlings and fit the ledges.

Ahoy Shipmates,
I have been working on finishing the cistern drive shaft and the pillars and Bitts.

I broke out my soldering iron and used 1/16" brass tube for my shaft and 3/32" for the bushing.

That's where I am now. Next job will be to finish the carlings and ledges.

Thanks for visiting my build log.

Hi Don,
I had the same problem. Stuff just did not line up. Next time I will follow Dave's advice. I will more than likely plank the whole main deck and try to do a better job next build.

Ahoy Shipmates,
When I first started to construct the upper deck I cut all my wood stock from patterns. Unfortunately, as some of you are finding out, The deck beams didn't fit. As I ha d said to Dave I extended the pattern and cut notches. In many places my notches are off.

So there was allot of repairs to make. I replaced most of the carlings.

Once all the carlings were repaired I started putting in the ledges.

So Here I am with the upper deck framing all done. Lots of sanding to do now.IMG_0651.JPG

If I had this to do over I think I would find a way to not install the bitts until I have finished sanding the deck.
Thanks for visiting.
