Soleil Royal- Re-engineering Artesania Latina's New Kit by NMBROOK
The work here is so beyond the beyonds that I like to come here, sometimes, and just take it all in.
I’ve been consulting with a friend in Wisconsin on his Heller modification project, and your build, Nigel, is a frequent reference point.
Eric is building a version of Soleil Royal 1671. He has proven to be very resilient, as the project has undergone 3 re-starts. The work, at this stage, is really interesting and uniformly excellent.
Anyway, I am always hopeful that your blue lady will take center stage in the rotation, at some point in the near future. Until then, I will watch all of what you are doing with great interest.

Very interesting build and always enthusiastic to see other's takes on this fine vessel. I notice the Shroud channels have been dropped right down on the hull.
I have very much got the drive and enthusiasm for Trinidad at the moment so I will keep riding the quest of the wave for now, once motivation drops I then flip to another ongoing build as quality of my work starts to drop off otherwise.

Well, as I’m sure you are observing with a mixture of horror and disbelief - it is full-on chaos over here. And chaos it will remain for at least the next two years. Hopefully, the courts will hold.
I am doing okay, though. One day at a time. One foot in front of the other. At least, here, there are plenty of inspiring projects to distract the troubled mind.

Small but all important progress this weekend.
The double layer of bow reinforcement planking has been added as well as completing Wale installation on this side.
The instructions call for shaping the curved ends of these planks prior to fitting.I installed them over length and then carved the radius areas.
Last picture is what I call the "money shot". Flowing sheer on both Wales and ports, just need to get the starboard side to match
Just one gunport to fit behind the beak bulkhead in the reinforcement

A few very minor tweaks to the layout provided by the kit templates has given me what I feel are more harmonious lines.
I have been working on this model for two solid months, every spare moment so I may be returning to Imara for a bit to get some respite, starting to suffer from “ plank blindness”

Hi Everyone
Well, it has been three years since dust was made on this model
Life really did get in the way, in that space of time I was made redundant and my Wife was diagnosed with a heart condition meaning she will be unfit to work again. The knock on effect was extreme loss of modelling Mojo, with all my focus just on maintaining sanity.
However, now is the time to get myself out of the doldrums and get back to doing something constructive in my free time. I have done other stuff but I have not had the available focus to work on this demanding build up until now.
First job is to sort my tool inventory out, my MF70 mill screams like a banshee, I burnt my long neck proton angle sander abusing it fairing the inside of Saint Philippe and my 12v Proxxon mandrill had also died.This is not the tools fault, all had been sked to do quite a bit more more than fair use
Availability of Proxxon in the UK has been sketchy over the last two years, Axminster,the importer went into administration, Germantools AKA Chronos has shut down completely but now things are better than before, I have a stockist 20 mins from my house. Yes I know I could have bought from Germany, but post Brexit, this is expensive.
I have replaced the MF70 with the larger 40 volt setup (still deciding on a suitable vice) , the long neck sander, 12v drill and a whole host of drills etc. I have also bought the popular gas torch. Figured that it would be better to for small items rather than my bigger set up I use for silver soldering model engineering assemblies.
In addition, I have restocked with Boxwood and blue tulipwood veneer. This comes in long rolls which I cut up into more manageable pieces.
Next Job is to get the model out of hibernation and do a trial assembly to see exactly where I was up to, pictures to follow
