Thanks for the update on Proxxon, Nigel. I've nearly always used Chronos, very sad - still we all know where to lay the blame! I've also used RDG, which I guess is your 'supplier'.
Hopefully I won't be needing to buy more.
Stuart
quite the mill. must put the mf70 to shame...

Why not order direct from Proxxon? I do, and it works well. They have never been out of an item, and they are quite friendly.Hi Stuart
RDG only have a small amount of Proxxon in stock and incidentally are quite a journey from my house.
The mill components came from PTC tools in Liverpool with lightning fast mail order
Everything else from Greenvill crafts in Harrogate. They are just down the road from me and are a woodworking tool specialist. They said this morning if they don’t have it, they can get anything in the catalogue in two weeks. Good to know and to be honest they had the biggest selection of Proxxon I have seen on racks anywhere. However they had sold the vice I think I am going to buy for the mill, so we will see how they go on if I preorder one
Kind Regards
Nigel

Hello,Hi Jack
Yes but I would stress the MF70 lasted 14 years before becoming unusable. She screams like a banshee now and snaps 1mm cutters immediately due to the runout. Milling mortices on the Saint Philippe frames in 1/36 was probably too big an ask.
Kind Regards
Nigel

Hello,
Nice to see you are back.
Glad that it lasted that long. I have one as well. I bought a kit 7 years ago to convert it to a CNC machine, but I have not done anything with that. It's one of my many side projects that hasn't gotten any traction yet...

well i have the thrust bearings i just haven't installed them, but if I install the steppers I would imagine I won't need them. The biggest issue on the MF70 is backlash on x, y and predominantly the z axis. From the videos I have seen, fitting a stepper motor eliminates the problem as the main issue is slop in the handles. You can close this up but then need to fit thrust bearings otherwise the handles become too stiff to turn. They do work really well though as CNC and Proxxon offer a CNC version
Kind Regards
Nigel
