Steam pinnace Janet

Hi Daniel
Regarding the planking,I wouldn't put a second layer over 4x4 planking.Have you bought/sawn the material? If you want to double plank,I would go for 2 layers of 4x2 planking theoretical giving your 4mm thickness minus sanding.Although the hull has graceful lines, you may find that bending 4mm thick planks around 3mm bulkheads may cause the bulkheads to deflect unless you prebend them all.

Kind Regards

Nigel

Hello Nigel,
In my theory I wanted to go with 4x4 for strenght because the steamplant have 5 to 8 kg weight
And in my first try I wanted to go to the strurdy side of approach.
Second planking was intended with 1 mm strips just for looks.
The wood is bought but not in sufficient quantity
I can begin and get next batch in a week or two.
Daniel

Sadly I work in my apartament , and storage for supply is low.
And the wood for models was bought in Romania like bread.
Well see what i can find after several weeks
Daniel

I agree with Nigel that it may be difficult to bend 4x4 planks. Much easier it would be to use 2 layers 2x4 mm planks or even first layer 2x4 mm and second 1x4 mm. I am sure that this is enough strengthwise.

Thanks for your reply Moxis
I will have to find other wood then,
How much weight have the steamplant on lempi?

Another question:
I enlarged the rudder a bit after reading about the scale performances
Do you think I should enlarge again or is good as is.20200503_131525.jpg

Dear Badras. This is a very interesting project and one that I will watch carefully. I have an original Luton Bowman Swallow steamboat of the early 1950's that I have restored. By the way, I just love the profile picture of the Yorkie. Is it yours?

Dear Heinrich,
I found the picture on internet and loved it .In the future I will buy/adopt a miniature schnauzer but first I have to find a good house with a little land around it.
And Space for an Workshop !!!
I wanted to build a steam boat from 5 years now but with this current situation I took the bull by the horns.
the plant is missing too but will be electric first and after will refit.
Also is the first time I build an RC ship ,so is a challenge to me.
Kind regards,Daniel

Dear Moxis ,I have to find a way to keep the gears from turning on spot on axis
Epoxy come in mind but I am open to suggestions.
I also discovered that I threaded the shaft of the propeller in the wrong direction and looses the gear when advancing.Anyway I secured the gear with 2 nuts and maybe a grover .
For durability I glued some strips on my blukheads .
Kind regards ,Daniel20200508_081939.jpg20200508_082213.jpg
