The Arizona 1/200. Trumpeter.

Another weekly update friends,
I have been working on the superstructure and fitting guns and the funnel. In addition I added the avgas fuel line to side of the ship. Currently installing the photoetch railings.

Hey Brian,
The speed with which you're getting through this build puts my humble efforts to shame. She's looking really good. I just have to ask, what did you use to replicate the AVGAS pipe along the port side? Particularly, what have you used as mounts/spacers along the pipeline?

Hi Steve, thank you.

With regards to the avgas line and brackets, I simply used fine brass rod for spacers . I drilled holes and glued the brass rod into the hull, then snipped them off to length . I then added the Avgas line to the tips of brass rod ( if you are following what I'm trying to say ). I used brass wire picture frame line from the local hardware store. Not sure how accurate this is, but it’s what I had laying around.

I purchased some 3D printed US navy ladders and floater baskets in 1/200 scale from the Mid west hobby shop. Although they are for the USS Missouri , they fit perfectly on the Arizona.

The Midwest Model Shop have started producing some really nice 3D printed products. Looking at some of their Titanic additions. Did it take long to arrive from the US after you ordered?

Steve,
They do excellent mail order to Australia and I have purchased from them several times. About a week for delivery.

Hello friends,
It’s been a few months since I have posted about my build. After finishing my USS California, I am now back on the Arizona .
I have finished the turrets and superstructure, and fitted the floatplanes. Currently working on the two observation towers and need to attend to painting touch ups.

A few photos of my current situation, thanks for your interest.

Looking really good Brian. What did you use for the weathering detail on the large cutters?

Bryian, you do realize those 2 planes are of the wrong time period of that ship as supposed to have Kingfishers which are monoplanes. what makes you think there is supposed to be boats on those davits? also, if those are supposed to be machine guns on the machine gun platform on either side of the ship's stack then should have been located on the aft end of that platform not the front end, for greater firing arc & according to the 1941 planes.

I am puzzled by this David. They were included in the 3D printed set of aftermarket parts sent from China. I was trying to depict the ship before Pearl harbour, circa 1938. I also refrained from painting the turrets red as most modellers do.

look at my post #74 for what you have to do for the 1938 time period that your model is currently is not as it is around the 1940/41 time period configuration minus the aircraft.

Hey Brian,

If you going for the '38 time frame, you're spot on with the aircraft type. The Arizona began using the Vought OS2U Kingfisher aircraft shortly after the first of this type were delivered to the U.S. Navy in August 1940.
:)

Bryian, you have about 3 choices in regards with the model.
1: do the corrections as per post #74 plus other corrections not listed there.
2: replace the biplanes with monoplanes.
3: leave the model as mixed time periods.

if trying to do circa 1938 then the gun tubs for the quad 1.1" gun mounts are not to be there & neither is the splinter shields around the 5"25cal aa guns on the superstructure deck.
Remember that day back in 38 when FDR came onboard and looked around. 'You men there, where are those gun tubs I sent? Should they not be up with them1.1"guads? and why the hell are there no splinter shields around the 5.25's?' I was a navy man back in the war you know.
'Think maybe you should paint those turrets red?'

if you do the corrections then you also have to fix the wood decks due to the corrections.
