Tony’s Blandford build log [COMPLETED BUILD]

Progress thankfully. I got the deadeyes done. Wasn’t sure how I would do them but settled on using copper wire wrapped then twisted into a pig tail. I soldered these for rigidity then folded lead foil into a squarish tube and inserted the pigtails into them. It may not be perfect but it’ll work for me. I also spent almost a day and a half turning the first gun barrel. Ill admit that I thought it would be easier than it was. Going slowly assuring no mistakes it was a tedious process but worked out. Working on gun 2 now and this may be a bit more difficult as it has to match the first, within reason of course.

Good work, Tony! I really like the deadeyes! Where did you source the lead…and is it really lead? Did you use any solder after making the square shaped chain plate and inserting the copper?

Thanks Doc. Yes it’s lead foil. I’ve had a sheet for 20 yrs used it in my other modeling. I think Historex used to sell it. It came in paper size sheets. No, no solder I just used a touch of CA to attach the copper to the lead. When I do it again depending on my next ship and how the chains are made I’ll just make “iron” chains. The AOTS doesn’t really show the chain detail or at least I didn’t see it.

Finally finished. Was fun despite small stresses on occasion. Next up Le Rochefort after a short or long break. Thanks to everyone who guided this first time ship builder and first time scratch builder. You guys are a wealth of knowledge.

Beautiful model, but I have to comment, there is ZERO slack in the breaching rope on each gun. There should be enough slack such that the gun can recoil on its carriage until the muzzle is approximately flush with the bulwark. They way it's rigged now would lead to a deadly accident for the gun crew. Also, the breeching ropes are not the same length between the two guns. I think this detail is one you're going to want to fix.

Yes thanks but they’ll stay the way they are. I don’t want to risk damage to the rings or blocks trying to fix it now.

Hi Tony, congratulations! your dedicated work for the last ten months has resulted in a fine model and the experience will be helpful with the Le Rochefort.
We are looking forward to your next build log.

Congratulations for finishing this very good scratch model -> BRAVO
