Trumpeter 1/200 Missouri build [COMPLETED BUILD]

I'm always interested in models people are building that are small I have such an unsteady hand. I mess up allot. :handgestures-salute:
This model is 53" long with a 6.5" beam. I do not think a model this long is small, but the scale of it, makes the parts small. What I could not have envisioned is that a plastic model would end up costing almost 600 dollars to buy. But you can see by Jim's build, it is worth every penny.
When I saw the pictures I wandered about the size but when I read the scale 1:200 I envisioned the small model I'm building of the Santa Maria. But in hind sight I didn't think about how small the Santa Maria was compared to the Missouri.

The $600 figure is quite accurate, but it breaks down as $300 for the plastic kit by Trumpeter, and then an additional $300 for the add-on brass kit from Pontos which includes the teak decking. For all of that money (which is comparable to the cost of some of the wooden kits available), you get some of the most precise engineered pieces I have ever seen. This is the second one I am building (see Trumpeter Bismarck on this forum) and I am enjoying it without benefit of all the sawdust. Jim
Mike some of the early pictures in this build log have paper clips or dimes in the pictures for reference. The paper clips are the small ones, and I have given up using them since they are ambiguous in size. The dimes are easier to reference. Jim

And for all of you history buffs out there, if you calculate the 6.5" beam up to actual width, it comes out to 108.333 feet. All US WWII battlewagons were limited to this width as the locks in the Panama Canal are 110' wide.

Hi Everyone. I know it's been a while since I posted progress on the Missouri, but as they say, SH. The ship is finally finished and I post below a bunch of pictures showing all that detail. Not sure what I am going to do next, Trumpeter has a few items on the shelf that peak my interest. They just announced a Kreigsmarine Type VIIC in 1/44 scale with a full interior, one side of the hull is clear plastic. Hmmmmm. But that, or something else, wont even be ordered till my eye clears up and we return home from a vacation in Key West. In the meantime, enjoy the pics.
