Good morning Vic. Played a little catch up here. The size of the cannons in relation to the pen shows how tiny this model is. Looking good. Cheers GrantI found a way to level the ship on the stand. I drilled out the holes for the screws, filled them with ca glue, and put the screws back in. Hopefully it will hold. View attachment 365934
I’m trying to paint the little buggers now. The guns definitely won’t have the detail that @DARIVS ARCHITECTVS has.Good morning Vic. Played a little catch up here. The size of the cannons in relation to the pen shows how tiny this model is. Looking good. Cheers Grant
Glad you found the missing piece. After I cut out and painted the missing bow piece, I found the original. View attachment 366141
Yeah, I went over the top on my guns. I'm really glad you found that figurehead piece. That's such a hard part to duplicate from scratch, although your effort to do so had decent results. Don't you hate it when you spend all day on one part only to find you will discard it later anyway? That's what happens to tiny parts lost in the carpet that are found days later. Quite aggravating.I’m trying to paint the little buggers now. The guns definitely won’t have the detail that @DARIVS ARCHITECTVS has.
You’re right, Kurt. I’m getting plenty of experience. I did get a plastic floor mat. That makes it a little easier to find stuff, unless the small thing goes flying and lands in the carpet. When I try to pick something up that I dropped, it’s like the scene in Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train, where the bad guy drops a cigarette lighter he’s trying to use to frame someone down a storm sewer. His arm goes through the grate and he strains and strains to reach it. Then as he finally reaches it, he knocks it down further. After an interminable time of stress, he finally grabs it. That’s what it’s like to pick something off the ground these days.Yeah, I went over the top on my guns. I'm really glad you found that figurehead piece. NO KIDDING! Now I'm trying to figure out how to fasten the breaching ropes to the bulwarks IF I decide to install them.WOW those guns are TINY. You MIGHT get breaching ropes made from thread on those but forget about gun tackles...
You can order etched brass eyebolts with 1.5mm or even 1.0mm eyes from HiSModel.com in the Czeck Republic. Their customer service is excellent and they have lots of parts found nowhere else. You can order 1/16 inch eyebolts from Model Expo. I have used them on Scientific Models with good results.

They might be too big. I tried gluing them to the bulwarks. I practically have to put on my 3.5 power glasses even to see the breaching lines. You can order etched brass eyebolts with 1.5mm or even 1.0mm eyes from HiSModel.com in the Czeck Republic. Thanks, Dave! I think I've seen them for about $30. I'll jump onboard when you start it. I'm kind of dreading the rigging. The instructions say to glue the ratlines on. I don't think the shrouds are supposed to be looped over the mast top either. I'd like to clove hitch the ratlines, but I don't know if it's possible at this scale.Very impresive! Your detail is outstanding. After watching your build I'm going on Ebay and getting the same kit to build.
Thanks, Dave. Good pix!I've built two of the Scientific models at the same scale. Using the clove hitch on the shrouds was not a problem. I used 3mm deadeyes not the beads provided in the kit. Dry dock on this site offers 2mm blocks that worked just fine.

True story Kurt. I always find lost items when I’m not looking for them. They have a way of hiding in plain sight…little buggers.Yeah, I went over the top on my guns. Good morning Vic. She is looking lovely. I am just gonna watch and never attempt something at that scale- impressive. I struggle with the small parts at 1:72 scale so kudos.
