Hi all thought I would do something a little different while I'm waiting for the glue to dry on the vanguard
I just started by dry fitting all frames and deck before I start and to mark the hull lines .now I've just glued the 2 ends .This should be interesting
Cheers snowy
Hi all just finished gluing in the frames . All good so far .I did notice as with my other amati kit there is only 1 page of English writen plans and I couldn't find the corresponding numbers for parts eg: part 56 = 1×5 walnut. After about a half an hour I found it on the back page of The Italian plans. Onwards and upwards cheers snowy
Snowy,
This kit is next up for me - will enjoy following your work.
As far as the kit's dragon head - not sure about that - looks a bit too "video gameish looking" I personally will try to carve one from wood. I have taken many images from that fabulous "The Vikings" TV series. But who knows - need to finish my current build first. Good luck with this build.
Hi all
Well I put on the deck just to make sure everything was square as I glued on the frames now I have just put on the first plank but I only went to the first frame as I'll let this dry and go again tomorrow ,if time permits. It says in the plans to dip the planks in 50/50 glue and water as there is a lot of bending .all good we will see how she goes
Cheers snowy
I bent the planks without soaking them and I had no trouble doing so.
It is a good idea to taper the thickness of extremes of the planks where they superimpose ort you will end with a very high pile ok planking at bow and stern, if you see what I mean. The planks if I remember well are .8mm ply and I reduced them to about half the thickness.
Yeah cheers dicas I have been chamfering the tops at each end as I go.but thanks , I thought this was going to be about a month or two all finished but there is more to her. Even to chamfering the 2-6-10 frames as you go .i am just getting the 1st 3 frames right and gluing them then doing the rest the next day ,so a long but enjoyable Cheers snowy
Just one thought, the bulkheads are few and very thick and the layers of the ply remains at sight giving a not very good look.
As you can see, after all the planks had benn glued I removed the top of the bulkheads and replaced them by false bulkheads doubling the number. Much better, I
think
Regards
JL
PS - I added one extra top plank made of some surplus 0,8mm ply, gives an extra height to the hull.
