Willem Barentsz by Kolderstok AD 1596

That is why you will see that I left the Balsa filler blocks out in that last section - I wanted the strakes to run their natural course.
That makes a lot of sense now that I’m at that point in the build. I’m still in the learn and build - build and learn mode. I really appreciate all the help, hints and most of all the sharing of ideas. It’s good to know that if I take a wrong turn that some one will point it out and suggest a fix.

Do you receive this sort of course correction just as well from the Admiral? Honey, you should have turned back there...
Come to think of it I do. It's usually "wasn't that our off ramp". But then again my truck is even worse, in the middle of a divided limited access Interstate it insisted that I make "a U-turn" at my first opportunity. :D The next possible exit was 30 miles further South.:D

Excellent Jan Exclamation-Mark And let me tell you straight out - it is perfect as far as the sheer and the height goes. Your height and curvature of that top 4mm plank is identical to mine! Are you going to add the 4th wale as well?

That looks fantastic Jan! Wonderful! Stupendous! Unexpected (in all the best possible ways)! Congratulations :D
Geez Paul, you’ve got me blushing, thank you for the accolades.

I had the same problem as Heinrich on his WB#2. There was a gap in the planking between planking down from the wales and up from the garboard that looked like the Cheshire cats grin and needed to be filled in.
Creativity is not my “forte“ but a couple hours of cutting, fitting, sanding, soaking and “Bad Words” I had a fix.

I think I’ll follow your lead on that. I like that look

Jan, I want to make a point here. Yes, the WB is a difficult ship to plank - yes, despite everything you do, you will have to deal with the Cheshire cat (I love that analogy), BUT ... now that you have done it, how does it make you feel? In my recollection, a build of yours has never collected the very deserved accolades that @dockattner Paul has just bestowed on you. And your achievement is worthy of every single one of them - I should know! :) I am sure you had pushed yourself here to levels that you thought were not possible - and yet, you have succeeded. That's what a model of the Kolderstok Willem Barentsz does, it gives a sense of build satisfaction like no other.

Geez, now I’m blushing, embarrassed and humbled. You guys are fabulous and Heinrich I appreciate your comments. As to “How do I feel”, I’m delighted that I could figure out how to eradicate the “grin”. I freely admit that without your log that shows the trials, tribulations and final solutions of the WB #2 build I would not have gotten this far. I thank you for that.

Hi Jan. I have a lot of respect for your perseverance. With this beautiful result. Such a single-layer planking is a hell of a job.
Regards, Peter
Thank you Peter. I had to walk away a couple of times and do something different. But I couldn't let that Cheshire cat get the best of me. Just for chuckles here is one of the many rejects that didn't quite fit.

So the score is me = 1 and the cat = 0.

:eek:The cat is laughing because now I have to plank the SB side:eek:
