That's great news! So now, just like Heinrich did, you can order a second "WB" kit and go through the motions all over again. The ”Bad Word Jar” has benefited very well from this part of the build.

I applaud your courage to pick up the gauntlet and build this little gem; you sure made great progress on her.Stubbornness, persistence and lots of bumling.
The final outcome.

The 2 X 3 cap rail is done. The ”Bad Word Jar” has benefited very well from this part of the build.
@Heinrich, I just had to do it this way. I knew if I took my time and worked carefully with a section at a time it would work out.
Ouch... This is apparently where the men are separated from the boys, guess I still have some growing up to do.On this build there is nowhere to hide - there is no use of filler, there are no 0.5mm planks with which to complete a second layer
NO NO NO NO. Once around is going to be enough. But then again Fall and Winter are in the works and Oak would make good kindling. That's great news! So now, just like Heinrich did, you can order a second "WB" kit and go through the motions all over again.
Thanks for the kind words Paul. I’m a little leery of the next few build steps.Congratulations Jan! A result to be proud of!
Not at all Johan - I have this funny idea in my head that after the WB, I might just do the same (ok, I will never build a ship that uses veneer as planking) - but other than that there was no intention other than to say that on this baby, you have to get it right first time.Ouch... This is apparently where the men are separated from the boys, guess I still have some growing up to do.
(See also my latest posts on, yes, exactly, using filler and veneer.)
I don’t know about courage, but I have a lot of stubbornness and determination when comes to doing a project.I applaud your courage to pick up the gauntlet and build this little gem; you sure made great progress on her.
Cannons, that is one the questions I’ve waiting to ask. I have eight in the kit and never planned for any in the stern. You have six spotted on the lower deck, taking in account the possible obstructions where would you put the other two.Congratulations Jan! On this ship, this is a major milestone to have achieved. Only those who have built and planked a WB, will know the exact extent of what it takes to accomplish this step. On this build there is nowhere to hide - there is no use of filler, there are no 0.5mm planks with which to complete a second layer - you get one chance and that's it! However, with what you know now and with the confidence you have gained, planking any other ship (with the exception of the @Kolderstok Fluyt, will be a walk in the park.
Now the sanding will provide you with ample opportunity to bond even further with her, before you break out the scalpel! If you are going to install cannons, it has to be done now!
Excellent suggestion, that will be the plan. The other two will probably be the easiest to mount of all of them Jan - in the stern most gunports. The only reason I didn't mount mine there, was because I already showed the two cannons in the stern. The same cannons were used either in the stern or in the two stern most positions - you couldn't have both.

Hi Jan. Very good to see that you have finally been able to complete this planking. With such strong planks and pronounced curves on a ‘single plank hull’, that's a admirable achievement.Stubbornness, persistence and lots of bumling.
The final outcome.

Peter that clip is absolutely fantastic. Thank you. Probably to early in the morning to put a dollop of the product in my morning coffee. But then maybe not.Hi Jan. Instead of the “Bad Word Jar, it’s time for:

Definitely no dollops. There is an X-Acto and gunports waiting.Peter that clip is absolutely fantastic. Thank you. Probably to early in the morning to put a dollop of the product in my morning coffee. But then maybe not.
Indeed, it was touch and go to get this far. I’ve have a small pile of “mangled” planks an empty 4oz. Gorilla PVA glue bottle. I even have comments from the Admiral and her sister. I quote “Oh that is so cute”. Can’t get any better than that, right?Good morning Jan. Whew- after filling the bad word jar more than once, redo’s and plenty determination you OWNED it! Awesome. Maybe I should just hum the the tune while I work away?Definitely no dollops. There is an X-Acto and gunports waiting.
The WB has this effect on women!Indeed, it was touch and go to get this far. I’ve have a small pile of “mangled” planks an empty 4oz. Gorilla PVA glue bottle. I even have comments from the Admiral and her sister. I quote “Oh that is so cute”. Can’t get any better than that, right?
If you can hum while cutting out gunports, you are a better man than I.Maybe I should just hum the the tune while I work away?
