Panart: San Felipe 1:75 Scale Build Log [COMPLETED BUILD]

Thank you all for your comments. I am just "overbending" the planks and push them in towards and into the Bulkheads until it bends in or fits right. Here is the latest. I cut out a small wedge - I can't remember, I think it is called Spiling ? Well, it is a small piece about 2 inches long. It was pre bent as well.

I realize now that my first 4 planks that head into the bow should have been tapered instead of running horizontal like they are. The final planking will observe that. What I mean is that all my planks going to the bow will have a taper. Time is running out or I would demo with a graphic. Maybe later.

Hello Donnie

Your San Felipe Kit sure looks very ineresting and well put together with a huge amount of detail that I just love in a model ship. She sure will be a big build , much like the HMS Victory that took me around 27 months to complete a very challenging and also a very rewarding ship to build.

I will be pulling up a chair to watch you put togeather this great ship and will be waiting very patiently for a whole bunch of build pictures, ENJOY.

Regards Canoe21 { Lawrence }

Thank you Lawrence and others. Here is the latest. Not much done, just showing how I needed to cut a small piece to fit.

I am now catching up with a few builds. I find that the making of the shape is interesting as you can now fit planks a lot easier without trying to shape the ends.

I will pull up a chair also.

Cheers
Geoff

Thanks Guys. A few more bow pieces. Will sand down smooth later on.

Hi Donnie

Like the others said very nice work on the planking.

Denis.

Thank you all for following this. On to the latest -- more planking -- starting to fill in the gaps now. I had to fill in a pretty bad "wavy" opening. Well, it wasn't too bad. So I grabbed the dividers with pencil lead and measured the width of a plank. Then I scribed into the hull the replacement plank. I think it worked out pretty good.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support. I am just learning - I am not a planking expert by any means. But on this first layer, I thought I would take my time and see how well I can do before the final planking. Well, I am almost done with the first layer. I attempted to try and show my process of Spiling. Of which I still can't remember the diff in Spiling and Stealers. Oh well,, what can I say.

Every time you post she is getting better and better.
Just loving your work.

Denis.

Thank you Denis, and all....
The latest is not really all that exciting, but necessary. I read ahead in the instructions because the planking that meets the Stern was bugging me - seems the pieces did not have a correct flow to it. Found out I was correct and the planking had to be trimmed back some to be at same angle as last Bulkhead. Then I wanted to make sure that my Stern Pieces would have a nice flow of fitting too, so I just took a sample plank at different areas to see how flush things fit. This last image just shows a (clay modeling tool) since it has an angle to it, to use as a wedge or a prop to it so that the Spiling piece will dry to the shape I want. As a side note, the tool feel out and landed in my lap, I closed my legs to keep it from falling on the floor and guess--- I STABBED myself in the leg with the tool. It was hanging out and I literally had to PULL it out of my leg !!! OUCH.

Hi Donnie

I like the idea of over bending the planks I would have never thought of that.
I will make a note of this thanks.

Denis.
