NORSKE LOVE - Billing Boats 1:75 scale

Hi Dean,

first of all I'm sorry to hear about your health problem - even if not Covid ... it's always a problem !.

If I do, I am completely in agreement with your way of proceeding in making a model, whether it is from a drawing or a kit, because in the end that will be MY model. And if, for example, I decide to do it with red and white polka dots, even if historically incorrect, it will be fine for me. Because it's MINE and I like it like this ...

We all hope to see your Norske Love finished as soon as possible! However, your health, first of all!

Ciao! - Piero

Hello everyone, I though I would check in and give an update...

First of all, I am well now.
Unfortunately my oldest daughter and her daughter have Covid at the moment...sigh!
But my wife and I have remained Covid free thus far during this pandemic!

I had an upper and lower respiratory infection. Good news is I quit smoking! I have not had a cigarette since last year on new years eve. I also decided not to subject myself to glue and wood dust. So my lungs and sinuses have had a nice break....lol

As far as the ship goes, I think I worked so long and hard on the the last two builds, that once I got to the hull planking on the NL, I ran out of gas.....lol. Plus I got sick. However I hope to get my enthusiasm back soon. :)

On another note, airplanes have always been my first love. So last week I ordered two Model Airways wooden kits in 1/16 scale. I got the Neiuport 28 and the Sopwith Camel. I want to get the Albatros D.Va too. ;)
So I will most likely switch gears to building planes for a while after the NL, or perhaps work on both at the same time if I can't wait to get started on the airplanes! ;). I am excited about the planes and I am already doing research and buying books, etc.

Here are the two I have so far...

I will start a build log on the planes here on SOS, once I begin with them. So I may end up being one of those people who juggle multiple projects...lol. ;)

But rest assured, I am looking forward to getting past the hull planking of the NL, and get back to the fun stuff! I just have to get motivated again after my time off. ;)

Hello Dean, I am very glad that you are here again, whether with boats or planes, the important thing is to continue. I am glad that you have recovered and I hope that your daughter and granddaughter will soon pass the covid. A big hug friend.

Good to see you back!

Both Ellen and I attracted covid-19 in the first wave of 2020. Barely escaped hospitalization; we didn't show respiratory issues. Recovery was a long term project, took us months before we were back to good health. Please take care!

On the aircraft, you gotta be joking me. The other day I mentioned to Heinrich that, after first completing the Bluenose of course, I'm seriously considering to build an aircraft next, the Fokker DR.1
For now, I won't get involved in multiple projects simultaneously, but, we'll things may change.

Once you start one of your aircraft builds, I'll be on your tail!

This is the model I'm considering:

Yes, that is on my list as well, however we know that Manfred von Richtofen had most of his flying time in the Albatros D types 2,3 and V. I believe only 19 of his 80 kills were in the Fokker. ;)

Be careful Dean. If you think ships are addictive watch out for aircraft. The last fifty+ years I have spent building RC aircraft.
Switched over to ship building about three years ago when my eyesight/depth perception started declining.
I could have bought an entire fleet of ships with the monies spent on unconventional landings :)
Enjoy your builds

Yep, I know, but... Anthony Fokker was a Dutch aviation pioneer and even today Fokker products, although not complete aircraft anymore, are still widely recognized and appreciated.
I worked for close to 45 years at Fokker and saw famous aircraft in production, like the F27 Friendship.
So it's not specifically the connection of the DR.1 with von Richthoven, but more the fact that it was one of the creations of Anthony Fokker, that I'm interested in this particular model.

Yes, I understand fully! ;)
I used to build WW2 aircraft plastic models, then fighter jets. Then I got into building and flying RC gas powered airplanes. Started with a high wing trainer, then a low wing Warthog, and finally a P51D mustang with retracts. And you end up with a tool box and starter, with all kinds of spare parts, etc. just to go flying. Plus you’re buying fuel and props all the time. ;)
I guess there is no such thing as a cheap hobby…lol.

That makes sense! But it is also the last plane Richtoven flew, so mostly associated with him for obvious reasons, especially with red paint! ;)

Hello Dean. I am very glad to hear that you are feeling well now and to see you back on the forum. Whether you build ships or airplanes is neither here nor there - as long as you enjoy what you are building and as long as you share it on SOS, that is all that matters. Good for you on giving up smoking - that is a hurdle that I still have to cross - hats off!

I am glad to see your re-emergence again and of your recovering health. As to hobby building engagements, Trains, Planes, Hot Air Balloons, Ships. . . what ever takes you as far and wide as your dreams lead you on are all worthy endevours. Stay well my friend.. Rich

Hi Dean, really good to hear you are doing better. Prayers to your daughter and granddaughter to get well. I smoked for 40 years and quit cold turkey 8 years ago.
So glad to hear you quit too! Now you will have the extra money to buy the special tools and models with Ha!

Thanks Daniel! I too quit cold turkey, only way to get it behind you. It is a very expensive habit, in many ways...bad on your wallet and health! ;)

Hello to everyone, I am just checking in. I have been sick with upper and lower respiratory infection for about two weeks. Luckily not Covid, but it was bad enough that I didn’t work on anything. I am just starting to feel better again and have been playing my neglected guitars…lol. Knocking the dust off my strings so to speak. I need to do some portraits of my daughter and granddaughter as well. But I will start on the ship again soon hopefully. I found the scheme I want to follow, color wise. It will be white below the waterline and black above that to the lower wales. Then black at the top with gold accents on the railings. Below is a few reference pictures of a ship from the Danish museum…

So I can’t wait to get the hull planking behind me, then I can start on the wales and railings! ;)
Just saw this post now ... Glad you are feeling better Dean Thumbsup
