HIGH HOPES, WILD MEN AND THE DEVIL’S JAW - Willem Barentsz Kolderstok 1:50

This is quite a pitty my friend, but then again, you still had the option to re-do these planks.
I am sure that the planks will follow your high standards next time they are placed

My friend, this is how life goes - you win some, you lose some. I am happy to lose a battle, so long as I can win the war! Your kind words and support are always appreciated!

So right Heinrich. Ship modeling is a microcosm of life. Often the right decisions are the hardest to make, but in the end are the most rewarding. Thumbsup
Ken, if ever you have spoken true words - that is it. Ship modeling has taught me an awful lot about myself - and for sure - when everything falls into place, it is extremely rewarding.

You will notice that the top wale has a much straighter sheer than the bottom ones. This is perfectly correct as it now follows the exact deck curvature. To see this look at how the yellow line conforms to the deck beams of the bulkheads.

The combination of Oak and Walnut really stands out. Nicely done.
Thank you, Jan. I have one-quarter of the first plank on the starboard now sitting satisfactorily ... BUT the starboard side called for the beveling to start at Bulkhead #2!!! So - on Port Side, it's from Bulkhead #3 and from Bulkhead #2 on Starboard side.

I sometimes get the idea that the Dutch master shipwrights of yore are all sitting there silently laughing at the idiosyncrasy of this fool trying to understand anything about shipbuilding! ROTF

For your reassurance: I sometimes feel that the ‘Bluenoses’ in Nova Scotia do the same! ROTF

For sure, Peter! Thinking of you now, I just do not know where you summoned up the courage to saw your model in half. I thought I was quite a risk-taker at times, but what you have done was to escalate risk to a brand new level. Hats off to you! Thumbsup(And by the way, don't tell me it was a calculated risk! ROTF)

Thank you for your response, Heinrich. I think it was more 'limiting the risks' and 'hope for the best'.;) Therefore I made the construction with the aluminum guide rails, to guide the saw. And constantly 'adjust' to accommodate a small turnover. (The teeth side of the saw is wider than the flat back.)
Fortunately, you can now repair the unevenness in the planking of the starboard side. By sawing it in half it would have been more difficult.
Fingers a little bit crossed until you show the starboard side also with the nice sway.
Regards, Peter

Peter, I can assure you that you are not the only person who sometimes takes a few attempts at getting things right. That is precisely why I also post when something does not go according to plan. All it shows is our desire to get something right and with that there is nothing wrong! :D Many thanks for your very kind words - I also think the port side planking looks very good!

There was a time in my professional career when I did a fair amount of lecturing at seminars and conferences attended by fellow orthodontists. My most requested program was: Mistakes I have Made. This was a lecture where I shared my diagnostic and treatment failures, foibles, and missteps. It was funny and tragic all at the same time. At the end I showed a case that turned out better than anyone could have predicted. The take-home was that I would have never been able to successfully treat that patient if I didn't have a deep pool of failures to have learned from.

Failure only defines us if we stay in that place...redemption is always available if we choose that path.

Wiser and truer words have never been spoken. Thank you very much for those beautiful and life-defining sentiments, Paul.

Good afternoon friends.

Checked. This last picture also shows a much rounder and "wider" build than the previous one, while maintaining the upswept curves of the wales. That was the whole idea from the start - I will elaborate on this feature in detail in some future postings.
