Nikitin San Bartolome 1584 A.D. (Kit #35)

Alas my progress is slower than the top speed of a Tortoise.

Todays head scratcher, Trying to fit the Latrine bulkhead so the Forecastle fairing can be started.

The instructional video for this part is a little odd. The placement of the bulkhead is shown differently in several views. One view shows the grate and supports in place the next shows a different support under the bulkhead. I’ve chosen to use the cap of a large erasable marker as a temporary bowsprit to align the bulkhead with the bowsprit hole in the frame behind the bulkhead.

Good morning Jan. Looking good!! As much as I love this galleon and the kit, it looks like an incredibly complex build. Certainly not on my agenda for a while- I will leave that to you guys with the patience and skill.

Indeed it's a bit like a big puzzle, but there is nothing simple about it. Lots of head scratching moments. Currently finding time to work in the shipyard is a minor problem. Everything that can flower this time of year is blooming. We are surrounded by Apple Orchards and every tree seems to be trying to outdo its neighbor in color and number of blossoms. With the wind gusting the falling petals look like snow flakes.

The backyard viewed from our deck.IMG_3836.JPG

The big tree in the middle is a Bosc Pear with a Granny Smith and Macintosh apple tree on each side. The deer, Raccoons and local Black Bears have a great feast when the fruit falls.

The entire season is about three weeks early. We usually open our pool the last week of May and have to constantly monitor the filters because of the Apple blossoms. So the early bloom will eliminate that chore.

I've been some busy trying to keep up with the flower gardens, potting and planting Annuals. Then there is the lawn, I've been mowing and trimming every four days just trying to keep up.

I really don't mind, I love being outside and digging in the dirt. I have a good time trying different types of Annuals just to see if the "Grow Zone" map is right. The fun part is watching the various types of Humming birds flitting from flower to flower. This morning we had the first batch of Baltimore Orioles show up. So it was a hurried trip into the house to cut some Oranges and hang them in the bird feeder.

Ah I digress, I could probably could have laid a plank on the hull of the Galleon in the time it took me to respond to your post.

I think I can hear the grass growing so......

Alignment should be done by aligning the upper edge of the bulkhead with the edge of the foredeck

Yup thank you for the post, I finally figured that out. I was trying to align the Bowsprit holes, the bottom of the Bulkhead fitting to the crossbeam and the back edge of the Latrine grate.Three dimensions at the same time.

Finally wound up starting from the top down.

Probably not the best way to tackle the problem, but it seemed to work for me. Holding the bulkhead with the clamps allowed me to get the Forecastle fairing started.

Hi Grant,

Yup it's a great place to live. My favorite seasons are Spring and Fall. Summer and Winter are "OK", but the emerging colors of fauna in the Spring and the final colors in the Fall are things to admire.

Hmm awake in the middle of the night. Can't sleep, so a bit of photo editing.

I know some who follow this post have planked their hulls and are much further along than I am. Thought I'd post these pictures (original photos are by @giocomail ) of the planking sequence for those who have not started their kits.

The sequence starts with the Main Wale (Plank #17 (three planks laminated)) and then working up the hull to close in the Forecastle, etc.

The second step is to plank down from the Main Wale (Plank #17)

A hint, I spent quite a bit of time looking for plank #16. As in the "can you find Elmo game", that plank is not in any of the three kit boxes.

Part of the midnight to 3:00 AM hobby spree. Mr. Murphy and his Gremlin pals were causing problems on this portion of my railroad empire.

I found some oxidized rail joiners and replaced them with rail clamps. Multitasking on two hobbies.

Hmm, I think after I finish my 2nd cup of coffee maybe I’ll spend some time on hobby #3. “LEGOS”.

:rolleyes:Probably going to need a nap later:rolleyes:

I managed to do a final test fit before gluing the Latrine parts in place.

My work pace is not the fastest, but like the “Tortoise and Rabbit “, I’m getting there.

BTW, after the great weather we had this past week it was 22F/ -6C at 6:30 AM this morning. Some of my recent plantings don’t look so good. :(

@giocomail Excellent. excellent. Those are great photos. I know it's a lot of work together to the stage your at. I still have along way to go, the entire Starboard and half of the Port side. I'm slowing getting there.
