Ingermanland 1715 (2014) * Shi Cheng * 1:50 Scale

As I lay down the final planks to close in the hull, I have noticed that the planking set No. 29 must be omitted from the hull, as it stretches the exact same length as the prior set, and set No. 30 fits perfectly into place. And after measuring the gap, the remaining plank sets will fill up the hull nicely. It makes me wonder if I missed something along the way. Although I see nothing that would lead me to believe this, as all of the installed planks fit rather well. No matter, I'm happy with the progress, and I only have five more plank rows to go before eliminating all light from collecting within.

And as I reach the end of this section of the build, I'm reminded of a video I watched of a man building the HMS Victory. He would thin down his wood glue and brush it on to add strength to his build. Has anyone here ever done this?

Hallo John,

would be great to see a photo of the actual status, or after the finalization of the planking......thanks in advance

Sorry for the dark photo. lol In the photo, you can see that I have labeled each plank set. 33 will be the last plank to install, and is a single plank, whereas 30, 31 & 32 are two piece sets. 1 thru 28 are three piece sets (29 omitted).

Thank you, Viktor. I like this model. A long time back I wanted to build one. I hva plans for my future builds. However, maybe looking at your build, I will make a sharp turn...Hmm, Who knows...
Well, I am having a wonderful time building this ship, even though it is my first ever wooden ship. I know that dark waters await, and difficult times will arise, but I am not worried because, for some reason, this is very pleasing to me. And because you have already built wooden ships, I believe you will truly enjoy it also ;)

Cudos for the first ship model building by you from wood! She is coming nicely alone. Only patience and accuracy will be as the greatest judges! You are not far from the truth, I have some completed models and should you need any advice, or have just a simple question we are here to help.

Today I got to do a little work on Ingermanland. I love this ship! I told my wife today, 'If this is as good as I can make it, I've had a GREAT time getting it to this point!' :D

I've been working on smoothing out the hull, and I feel that it really shaping up nicely. There are a few very slight waves however, but they are so minute that I don't think they will cause any problems. That being said, I will probably try to polish them out completely, I just need some more sanding paper. lol

I have also lost a little filler to the keel, as you can see in the photos. The keel has been a rather selfish part of the build, I find. :)

The hull is so solid, I think it could take a shelling today, and be just fine :D:cool:;)
