Silent Mary by Mellpapa

Hi Mellpapa, I second Namabiiru - your mains'l is fantastic. The photos of your jeers could almost pass for full scale.

I'm not familiar with "Leef points". Are you referring to "Reef points", the short ropes along the middle of the sail used when shortening sail?

Hello, RussF
× Leef point
○ It's “Reef points”.
Leef point is incorrect.
“Reef points” is correct.
When I ran “リーフポイント” through translation software in Japanese, it came out as “Leef point”.
I'd been using it as is.
My apologies.
Thank you for pointing it out.;)
I've learned something new.:)

ROTF So all along, it has been the AI translators that have been perpetuating the stereotype that the Japanese pronounce "R"s like "L"s.

Hey, RussF
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. :D

Hello, Namabiiru
Since all the pulleys are handmade, some might be a bit uneven.
The rope... I found and bought the thread at the thread section in the craft supplies aisle at Home Center.
You should be able to find it at a craft store.:)
I'll post a photo.
By the way, COL12 is the thread color number.Thumbsup

Yes, I can get the same thing here! Thank you!

The main sail was finished by applying clear lacquer spray to set the decals, spraying clear lacquer spray again to protect the decals, and finally applying clear flat lacquer spray.
I observed it for about a month, and the decals showed no cracks or peeling.
Even when rolled up, the decals didn't peel off, so it seems fine.
Therefore, to make the lower edges of the main sail appear as if they're catching the wind, I added a curl to them.

・Focus on Reef points:
The Reef points on the main sail are located on the illustration of the double-headed eagle.
Black areas use black thread, red areas use red thread, and whitish areas use white thread.
Reef points are not applied to the eagle's face.
It's not ideal for Reef points to stand out prominently on the face area.

To make the lower edge of the foresail appear as if both ends are catching the wind, I rolled it to set the crease.

I installed the main sail.

Finally, I've become a Jeers, so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself.ROTF

That's all for today. :D
Good morning. Lovely progress. A very unique model and you are owning this. Cheers Grant

I had the running rigging on the Mizen Mast section routed through the wrong part.
It's going over the cat harpin.
This is embarrassing if I don't fix it.

SilentMary-45-08.jpg
I fixed it right away.
I'm glad I noticed the mistake.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SilentMary-45-09.jpg
I've installed the main top sale, main top gallant sale, and foresail.
I haven't done the running rigging for each yet.

SilentMary-45-10.jpg
Side view image.
Running rigging hasn't been installed yet, but each sail looks like it's catching the wind.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SilentMary-45-11-01.jpg
I finally managed to rig the running rigging for the yards and sails attached to the Mizzen Mast.
I skipped a few steps here and there, but I somehow tied it all to the belay pin.
The space between the mainmast and mizzenmast is now completely filled with ropes, leaving no room to even fit a hand in.
The ropes tied to the aft belay pin are mostly as I had planned.

Since the foresail is already up, next I'll attach the topsail and foretopgallant sail too.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SilentMary-45-15.jpg
The fore topsail and fore topgallant sail have been set.
The sails look like they're catching the wind.
Setting the bowlines should improve things a bit more.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All the sails we planned to put up are now in place.
The running rigging isn't done yet, and the anchor isn't attached either, but once all the sails are up, you just want to take commemorative photos, right?
I tried taking some from my favorite angle.
No explanations included.
The running rigging isn't finished yet, but please enjoy the view, thinking this is how it will look once it's complete.

All the sails up looks so cool.:D
I think it looks pretty similar to the Silent Mary concept art, but maybe that's just me being self-satisfied?! Hehe...ROTF

Now the hellish running rigging starts all over again. My head hurts...:きゃあ:
It won't be finished until the running rigging is done, so let's do this!!;)

For now, starting with the mainmast yards and the running rigging for the sails.

That's all for today.Ship-1

Working on the Silent Mary's running rigging,
but it's not going very fast.
Posting pictures of the rigging process would be boring,
so I played around with Google Gemini instead.ROTF
Google Gemini processes images just as you asked.
AI is amazing!!;)
Why not try floating your own model sailing ships on the sea with Google Gemini??
:D

Hey Mellpapa,

what have you done there? The Silent Mary looks beautiful. I'm so pleased with how well you've built her. The sails also look very lively and great. The reef bands need to be tightened up a bit. But otherwise really great. It really is a work of art. I am impressed. You really are a pervert ... Thumbsup :DFirst Place Metal

True story

Hello, GIG1810 and GrantTyler,

Thanks for always watching.

I figured posting photos mid-running rigging would be boring, so I tried posting some processed with Google Gemini instead.
I had Google Gemini process the sky and sea behind the ship, and it also cleaned up the hull of Silent Mary nicely.

I still haven't done the running rigging like the braces, bowlines, sheets, and lifts.

I'm working hard on the running rigging right now.

I'll post photos of the running rigging work soon.;)

And this is the Clueline.

And Clueline

SilentMary-45-24.jpg
How the Main Course and Fore Course catch the wind in the movie can be seen in one scene (from the Black Pearl, though) where they are positioned like the red arrows.
I think the Silent Mary probably has the same arrangement.

SilentMary-45-25.jpg
I set the Main Course by folding the bottom edge in, just like in the movie. ↑Like this.
I plan to do the same when setting the Fore Course.
You should be able to see the Breces and Clueline.

SilentMary-45-26.jpg
The area between the main mast and mizzen mast is even more tangled with ropes.

This is the main course tack.
Bowlines are also visible.

SilentMary-45-32.jpg
The sails on the main mast will look like this.
You can also see the buntlines and leechlines of the main course.

SilentMary-45-33.jpg
I was about to start on the foremast running rigging, but this little bit of thread left won't be enough...
I rushed straight to the craft section at the home center to buy more, but it was sold out... I requested they order it in.;)

The item should arrive in about a week... I asked them to ‘contact me when it comes in’.

Please forgive me if I spelled any rigging names wrong.Speechless

That's all for today. ROTF
