BALDER, Vlaardingen Herring Lugger from 1912, scratch build scale 1:50 Plate-On-Frame

Hello
Beautiful interesting work. Regards, Mirek
Magnificent! Now don't drop anything on it...
Just beautiful
Beautiful work on your recovery.

Bill
It is great to know the recovery went well and she looks gorgeous (as she was before).
Fantastic pictures of a beautiful build.
Thanks for the ‘sympathy in good times and bad’ and the reactions, Mirek, Paul, Stephan, Bill, Jim and Christian. But also for the readers who drop by.
For ‘a while’ I am already thinking of a plan that makes sense in terms of approach to the next steps.
It will probably be the cement floor/ballast with some preparation.
Regards, Peter

Dear Peter. There are many truly exquisite builds on SOS built by very experienced modelers who stood first in line when the Big Man handed out woodworking talents. However, in some way or another they are all re-imaginings or re-interpretations of that which is either known to us or has already been done. BUT ... not one single build reflects the far-sightedness or vision coupled to the inventiveness and creativity that your Balder exudes. This is truly a groundbreaking model - and at the time of your build - will always be exactly that!
This is most definitely a true story Heinrich.

And after a few hours of repair and spraying, something suddenly appears that looks like the real ship:

The keel beams are still slightly apart at the back. But I won't show the model anywhere like this.
Regards, Peter
Good afternoon Peter. Wow your build has had quite an adventure the past week. My heart broke for you when I saw the damage yet there was no doubt it would be restored to what you present in the photos above. Heinrich (@Heinrich )said it best in his post above. Legendary stuff! Cheers Grant

Even more encouraging words :) ……… Thanks Grant!

One of a kind modeling. I'm still waiting for someone, anyone picking up the gauntlet and follow in your footsteps, or, preferably pushing the modeling limits even further. (I heard someone mentioning lights...)

Thank you for the compliments and encouragement, Johan. I will help them with advice and all my knowledge.:)
But then I first buy some Evergreen stocks.ROTF
And as for lighting: it will have to be oil lamps in the right scale. No modernism like LEDs ......;)
Regards, Peter

I am out of this challenge…..way beyond my skill set:cool:.
it will have to be oil lamps in the right scale.
You can do this Peter- get some paraffin refills for the tiny lamps and Explosion….ROTF
Cheers Grant

I know that there is/was a model(kit?) from paper which shows als all frames for a freight ship. I have a lot of evergreen at home, but I am out of the challenge. I have more projects than I can finish in my lifetime. So it's better to give them to Peter. Please remember me, before we see us next time.

I also found that any scratch build can present a challenge, at least to me; there's no treaden path.
(This doesn't imply that building a model from a kit is a walk in the park.)
Having said that, modelers like Peter and Maarten, to name just two, are definitely redefining the borders of modeling.

That’s is a very nice offer, Christian. And about the amount of projects ……. Life is to short or there are not enough hours in a day ….
