Bluenose 1/72 POF [COMPLETED BUILD]

Hello Dean,
I admire your work. Have a couple of questions about the bolt heads. I do not see these in the plans, so assume I am missing seeing them or they are from some history or photos of the original ship. How did you do them? Are they just on the back of the frames or both front and back, and are they done prior to securing the the frames to they jig and the keel? I am in the early weeks of building my frames. Can usually do three in a day with drying times and sanding. It is really helpful and fun to have all of the group builds available. There are a lot of talented people on this forum, and you are right at the top. Attached are a couple of my early photos. I started modeling after retiring about three years ago and this will be my fourth ship. Previous builds Caldercraft Mortar, Vanguard Alert, and Mamoli Yacht America. thinking of starting my own build log.
Thanking you in advance for reading and responding if you do.
Phil
Thank you Phil.
The nails on the frames are not part of the kit plans. I added them.
I was going to add treenails, but I saw some bolts on the actual BN 2 build pictures, and decided I liked the look of bolts better.
Some people drill a hole and push or nail in brass wire. I used an old technique that I came up with when I used to build plastic models. I use a straight pin and dip it in glue and dab on to make bolt heads. Then I take a toothpick and put paint on the end and dab on the dried glue dot. It does a good job of representing bolt heads, or rivets.
Anyway, I put them on both sides, as the bolt would have gone all the way through to the other side. And I applied them prior to putting the frames in the keel. Hope that helps.
You should start a build log. It’s a good way to get advice and input from many builders. ;)

Ok, enough about ships from the past and in the future.
Back to my present build, which I finally had another chance to work on.
I finished all of the shroud lines and rat lines on the main mast. Now time for the side stays, after which I can move on to the bow sprit and foremast.

Wow, that is just awesome Dean. Thank you for your comments and suggestions on my own Bluenose II build, which is still very much in its infancy. I'm in awe of the models you guys produce, and can see that I'm in good hands on this forum. Very inspiring Thumbsup

Thank you! Glad to help any time I can, as is most anyone else on SOS. ;)

Now I just have to get well…sigh! I got a chest cold…luckily not Covid, but still very unpleasant! Coughing up phlegm for days and nose running and stopped up. So no way I can be around glue and stain. Hope to resume work on the ship next week.
Hi Dean.
Congratulations with the NL! And I hope you get well soon.
Regards, Peter

That's not good! Your first love arrives and you are sick! But, I'm sure, she will wait patiently for you - congratulations!

DO NOT give in to the temptress! I can hear her siren cry all the way up here in Illinois. Deeeaaannnn....

Finish the BN first!

The packaging looks almost identical to my VASA. I found the Obechi (if that's what you have) to be an excellent first planking wood, its very bendable. Have fun with her when you can!

Great news, Mon Amie! Lots of fun around the corner, I am sure your palms are itchy. Get well soon, and feel better! :)

Thank you all. It is tempting to start on the NL, but I have to finish the BN first. But I already have ideas for the NL and can’t wait. ;)
@Peter Voogt
Thanks Peter!
@Heinrich
Thank you…she’ll wait. But I think it is me who will have waited the longest! ;)
@dockattner
Paul, you have good ears! :p
@Daniel20
Thanks! Yes the Obechi is great for planking! This ship is single plank. Which I actually like, it’s how I learned. ;)
@Jimsky
Thank you Jimsky!
@PT-2
Thanks Rich! Hope to get back in the shipyard soon!

She looks clean and precise with your skills. Your photo lighting is really good and even making viewing easy with minimal shadows. Have a good time with the foremast. I don't know if YQ includes running lights or not but suspect not. Great work. Rich

Thank you Rich! Yes, I will have to add the running lights later in the build. Will probably make my own lanterns. ;)
