Hey Hermann,

What are you building there? A cathedral? I'm only asking because this model is absolutely adorable. I'm speechless. Thank you for this ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... effect! Beautiful model... :D Explosion Explosion Thumbsup

Yup. You've got a gift...
That is an incredible bit of carving in such a small area.

Pięknie rzeźbisz Hermanie .Pozdrawiam MIrek
Nice carvings on the catheads it self and on the lion, Herman.
Regards, Peter
Good morning Herman. What Paul said. Definitely something to marvel at. Cheers Grant
Thank you very much for all your kind words. Much appreciated and motivating.

I know how difficult it is to make a small face like that. A little taken away to much wood and it is ruined. Impressive.
Thank you Stephan. When I started I first visited your build log, it was the first that came up looking for "lionhead".
Your remark "a little taken away... " is spot on. Even my usual modus operandi using steel wool is too much and will ruin details on this scale. I now use an old toothbrush to clean up afterwards.

Thank you Gunther for this generous comment. A cathedral?.. then I would have taken some further artistic freedom and have redesigned my simple scuppers into gargouilles, ROTF

Indeed, when it's so small, no steelwool. Sometimes I use these rubber polishers from Alie.

Search for sifang dremel
I wanted to put in a link or picture but my tablet went bezerk.

Beautifully done indeed! I'm always a little jealous of this kind of skill. I've often tried to create a simple wood carving, but I never get an acceptable result. It's wonderful to see you succeed.

Love it, Herman!
You have skills Herman. Very impressive. Cheers Grant
You made a nice couple of statue/man/heads, Herman.
Regards, Peter
Very impressive carving

Thank you guys for the compliments.
Quite a few statues and other decorations need to be made, roughly this size. So I'm happy it turned out reasonably well, and I'm equally happy that it meets with your approval. The one on the far right for the viewers was the first one I made, and not the best. Still, I'll use it to chart my own progress. I will do my best to add more details later on the statues on the stern.

Looks great Herman,

Do you give them a wash with bitumen? Especially the small details will be better visible then.
Thanks Maarten.
I intend to apply bitumen later. I already have a fresh bottle of Judea bitumen waiting but I first have to dive into the matter of how to apply it and do some experiments.
I understand you should first apply finish (oil, shellac or whatever) and after that is done apply bitumen, diluted or not in wax, and then wipe it off again to the extent necessary until you achieve the desired result.
