Fife-Scottish Fishing Vessel, Amati_Victory Models 1:32

So very good!!! Almost a pity to paint that beautiful woodwork. Cheers Grant
I agree Grant. Hindsight is 20/20. I originally intended to paint below the waterline and Danish Oil above so I didn't do my best planking where I was going to paint.
Lesson learned......Do your best and don't cut corners. At 82 you would think I'd know better.

Or maybe I just forgot

ya think so? They don't bother with good packaging, they have a different business model - ship replacements :p. But soon, hopefully, you will have 3 good boards.
You are correct. I just received my replacements. (1) board intact and (1) with a chipped corner.
Well, I now have (2) intact boards (keeping the good boards from each order) as they require I return the damaged ones or be charged for them.

While still waiting for material to complete the decking I thought I'd work on some of the etched brass components.
Dug out my trusty BernzOmatic pencil torch.

Started with the two Herring Shovels. Got the first one soldered together and while forming the pieces for the second one the handle slipped out of my tweezers and the floor monster ate it. I don't have carpet on my floor but, still haven't found it. Have a little cleanup to do on the first shovel and I'll give them a 400 grit brushed finish and a coat of clear lacquer.

Ron, I was installing a new electro-magnetic recumbent cross trainer exercise bike and I dropped a spring washer. I looked everywhere but the floor monster swallowed it. I didn't have any in my garage tool box, so I had to grab the car keys and make a hasty hardware run. Two hours later I finally got back to the bike with a box of washers! I hate all floor monsters! Magic Mike

Maybe I'll check my local hardware to see if they carry any etched brass components. ;)
I'll 'try' to make a new handle from the material I have. Of course it has to be the tiniest piece to make for ol' fumble fingers. I know what's going to happen. As soon as I fabricate a new one I'll find the one I 'lost'.

Well, my ship came in today or rather the Fedex truck arrived so I was able to complete the laying of the deck planking. Yet to apply a finish.
Oh boy, now I can continue with the fiddly bit deck hardware. :(

Speaking of 'Fiddly Bits' why is that now days most of my work is accomplished under a magnifying lens?
That was a rhetorical question guys. No response required. I already know the answer

Good morning Ron. That marvellous decking . Congrats. Cheers Grant

Thanks Bill.
OBTW, I found the shovel handle that the floor monster gobbled up while I was looking for another part that I dropped. Haven’t found that piece as yet. Go figure.
In such cases, My Admiral is a great help. Once I dropped the part I immediately called her and she found it 99% of the time. Her vision is not better than mine but it works! I think the men's logic is different... Go figure...

You're very fortunate Jim. I lost my Admiral two years ago this month.
As I've moved into what was her 'Quilting' room I do still find many of her straight pins on the floor while looking for my 'lost' parts.

Sorry for your loss, Rob...
Yes, I am!!! I guess it is mutual for both of us... even though she doesn't ask me to find her staff, and I am not a volunteer doing so.

A question for all you etched brass experts. Both sheets of etched brass supplied with this kit have what I call flash. At least in the plastics molding industry that's what we called it.
As you can 'hopefully' see from the lousy photograph there is 'flash' around the entire piece with the dimensions shown typical for the entire sheet. Flipping the sheets over and the same appears on the opposite side of the part.
I'm assuming there is some sort of mask or masks used for the etching process. I can only assume that these masks are skewed which results in the flash around the part. ( I know what results when one assumes something)
While it's certainly noticeable on the part it really rears its ugly head when one part has to be slotted into another to form a component. Filing the flash off the female part results in an oversize slot which makes for a 'sloppy' fit. (No anatomical remarks please) This is a family channel.
Admittedly my experience with etched brass is limited however, I've never seen this on previous sheets I have worked with.
So my question is: is this common?
