HMAV BOUNTY - A “face lift “

Just in case you do not already have it, the attached is the original contract for a sister ship to Enterprize 1774, the Aurora (28) 1776. If you wish I can email it to you in Word format as well as it has been highlighted with items that are usually ignored by some kit makers.
Allan
Thank you kindly Allan. I will pm you my email address. Cheers Grant

Good morning. Firstly thanks to Allan (@AllanKP69 ) for his help.

Back to the Bounty. Whew the past 2 months have been hectic. Been working on attempting to buy a business into our group which failed at the end. It felt like spending many hours building a major part for a ship only to throw it into the redo pile…

Anyway I have some ship building time again:D.

Yesterday I continued with Mizzen mast- fitting the top, mast bands etc :

Some poly- the 3 masts at present :

OH I also finally made the missing chain plate . I used a dremel and needle files to shape this from left over brass from the Victory. Not perfect but good enough.

Had you not drawn an arrow to it, I would not have picked out the one you made. Nicely done.

My condolences for the $7…
Thank you Kindly gentlemen.
Wow, all that progress at only $7.00. If you factored in your time at a decent $ rate and adjusted for inflation what would the $ be?
Good afternoon Jan. I’m doing this one “Pro Bona” ROTF.
Wow! Now, what are you planning to do with all those savings? ROTF ROTF ROTF :p :p :p
Hi Jim….buy the Enterprise kit. ROTF.
Cheers Grant

Jokes about the price were already enough ROTF ROTF , just say what's cool!!!! So go on))

Good afternoon.

The blocks etc. on the foremast top added.
I was tempted to spend time and “square off” the deadeye holes however you don’t see these when deadeyes are in….so…… ;)

Rigging :
Playing with some rigging options. For the standing rigging I am seeing if I can use left over kit ropes from the Victory and Xebec. Mantua (Victory) is better than Occre’s.

The rigging scale will not be correct (I would have to buy plenty ropes to do this and it would blow the budgetROTF) however I hopefully I will get it close enough not to detract from the model visually. May my hope not be in vain:rolleyes:.

I dye the thread with Indian ink and water mix. On the right is the fuzzed example before the final dye. To get rid of the fuzz I run a candle over the line. Final product on the left. Not the best rope however it satisfies my renovation objectives.

Oh…. I had to spend more money on her.. I need some more rings and 0.6mm wire. These are not brass and blacken a dirty black vs a blue black. I will also have to adjust the size of the rings.

R115.00 = $6 odd. $13 total. My quest continues.

Nice tiny details with the toggles for the bocks, Grant. And the defuzzed ropes looks very good.

Thank you Peter.
Cost overruns are killing this project!!!

edit: Hmm. I have thrown away more than $13 worth of supplies while building the KF ROTF.
$13 or $130?
I’m with Chuck here Paul…ROTF

I was seriously considering buying ropes and blocks as trying to get my left overs to work is frustrating (especially the scale). When I paid for the HMS Enterprise kit the Admiral commented that it was just as well my Bounty was “free” as with postage and import duties it is super expensive - Eish. I guess I am now stuck with the leftoversROTF.
This project is back to a “let’s see what I can to” build……Hmmm.
Cheers Grant

Good morning
Wow, I can’t believe it is that time of the year again. I’m taking my management and support guys and ladies away for 2 days for our annual year end function. Going to a little town on the beach called Paternoster. Time for a little fun.

Thought I would post some pics (close ups to show the sad side ROTF)of my progress on the Mizzen mast standard rigging and blocks. Scale has been my issue however I am not going to spend buying new ropes and blocks……so far not detracting from this project.

I try not to look too much at what I spent on hardware; too often one has to buy way too much (minimum order), or it appears not to be the required size, material, etc. Plus the cost of overseas postage, customs, those are real cost drivers. I try to buy as much as possible from within Europe, but some stuff is simply not available in Europe.
On the other side, there are pastimes way more expensive than model shipbuilding. Take a look for instance at RC scale flying; some models are supposedly in excess of US$30,000.
