HMS ALERT 1777 cutter POF by shota70 [COMPLETED BUILD]

good evening dear friends
Today I spent my Saturday afternoon continuing to create the gun powder room.
This time I created the tin plating of the floor of the room as well as the copper plating of the inner wall of the ship which serves as the "wall" of the room.
As I wrote before, our friend Maarten's build diary serves as a valuable guide.
I used silver foil to simulate the tin by placing the side in a matte shade towards the top, the foil was glued with the usual glue. The shape of the foil is wavy so that we can see a little of the floor.

Later I approached to create the wall that comes down from the beam connected above the pump house. I spent over an hour making sure that the wall matched the interior contours of the ship. After achieving the required fit I permanently but sufficiently temporarily glued the beam to the wall and the cabinet to the hull.

After the silver foil paste dried I glued copper foil to the side of the ship. I still need to make the texture of nails on top of the two foils. 20220813_165043.jpg20220813_185822.jpg20220813_185935.jpg20220813_185956.jpg
I am attaching photos from the process and I wish all of us a pleasant and enjoyable weekend

Very nice work Shota.
Btw the aluminium and copper you can also buy as selfadhesive tape in every hardware store.
That works much easier then the thin foils.

Good evening friends
Tonight I am continuing to create the gun powder room. I first started by removing the copper and tin plating from the floor of the room. This is because it was not possible to produce on the glued foil the configuration of the bumps and depressions that were created in the room in the connection areas of the copper and copper tiles.

I created the markings manually but in an orderly and accurate manner as possible. The truth is that the result is satisfactory to me.

After that I started to cartridge racks in the stern. I'm in the middle of a process.
I will attach pictures that I hope will show the process, also because I am a little exhausted from a day's work.

good night dear friends Sleep:)

The foiling now looks much better, Shota! Good going, my friend!

Hello dear friends
Today I achieved some progress that I can report in the powder room. I finished the shelves for the powder bags on both sides and coated one side with copper foil. 20220817_234128.jpg20220820_185641.jpg20220820_185708.jpg
Later I approached the construction of the upper entrance to the room. First I make two pieces along the square hook which I then glue together as one frame. I was doing to get a perfect squared frame. If you look closely at the pictures you can see that the connection points at the end are constructed so that I created interlocking grooves and after the glue dried I sanded the entire frame at an angle that rounded down.

20220820_191621.jpg In my opinion it also gives strength to the frame as well as beauty. I admit that I have also drawn inspiration from friends' methods here and some books.

I wish you all a pleasant and enjoyable weekend :)

Dear Shota,

While admiring your work on the HMS Alert, I became intrigued by the geometry of the plating of the powder room. Is there a reason why you apparently cut away part of the plating or is the summer light playing tricks with my eyes?

Kind regards,

Johan

I'm happy that you asked mate , :)
I did this on purpose so that anyone watching could see the wood floor under the tin layer.
I took the idea from our friend Maarten

Aha, that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

Absolutely great progress. The gunpowder compartment looks good and authentic. I also think that your access hatch is something different from the usual mitered joints, but it works very well.

Shota I'm impressed with the work and the increase in your building skills. You grow with your tasks and you can see that very well in your work. Keep it up Thumbsup

thank you very much my dear friends,
it's encouraging me to improve and learn more from you and from the other friends
