HMS Blandford POF by Keith [COMPLETED BUILD]

Continuing towards the bow with the lower deck timbers. The chain pump and galley stove have also been made up and fitted. l did a little extra work on the chain pump to give a bit more detail, as the one supplied with the kit was just the basic shape and needed a bit of livening up to match the incredible detail of the rest of this kit.

I agree with Jim
- and when I compare your working progress with mine (I am also making in the moment the deck structure on my Granado) I can state, that you are a very fast and also accurate modeler
-> Looking very good

Thank you very much Uwek. l am in the fortunate position of being retired so can devote a lot more time to my hobby than those who have to work. l do not want to finish this build too soon however, as l really enjoy working on it. So (hopefully) many more happy hours to come. l will be looking for suggestions for my next build later (another POF kit) though. Any ideas?

That Bow section is so clean
Shaped the bow pieces together - think i should have shaped then singularly and fitted the and then shaped the next one
I am starting again so will do the Main Square Frames the same way
Obvious on Hind siight

THANKS

I can recommend fully the Granado from CAF I am working in moment.
And I could build afterwards the Blandford - it seems, that you have a lot of fun with this kit........

Thanks for that Uwek. Still have a long way to go but will be giving the Granado a lot of thought. l would love to see what you do with your Blandford kit, a superb build no doudt. You will love it!

The forward lower deck timbers are now all in place, including the riding bits. l will give all the new parts their first coat of preservative to match the mid section, then move onto the stern section to finish the lower deck. 2 coats of preservative will complete the job.

Ribs trimmed to their correct heights and spacers placed between to bring them into line. That's the frames just about complete apart from marking and cutting out the gun ports. The instructions show this to be the last step in the construction of the hull frames, so my next step will be to take the whole assembly out of the cradle to add the transom timbers. Then it will be ready for its final sanding and 2 coats of the wood finish that l mentioned earlier.

i just wish tthey would say how far above the stern frames the longer filler are- its guesswork - great work

Very neat work Keef, always a rewarding moment to look for the first time at your hull free from its mould.
One remark it seems the hull is bending in at this point I would temporary fit an inside support to straigthen it until the deck beams are fitted.

getting the sides of the hull straight has been a nightmare for me ive tested the width of the top of the frames with a piece of scrap wood very 10 frames or so and fitted a piece of rigging cord straight down the hull so i can check its all stright

The bow section of lower deck timbers is now all with its first coat. l intend to give the wood 2 coats when the whole deck is completed

i am trying to get the gun ports cut - the plan shows the lower part of the port covered in a part - it give the impression that it has sides as well so the lower part can fit Looks like ive cut too much much

Hello Richard,

Did you intend this post for your build log or Keef's? You both have the same title, so I know it confuses me! All the best...

Hi Richard ,here is your build log

HMS Blandford is back in the cradle to finish off the hull. The gun ports have all been cut and the stern counter frames have now been added, which l must say was quite a job getting them look right. lt took a few attempts and 3 parts l had to recut from spare 4mm wood scraps due to me fitting them wrongly. These parts all look the same for both sides but there is a very slight difference in their curves for the port and starboard. Looking down the centre line everything seems to line up nice and square. Next is on to the interior with the fitting of the strakes

Have you got anny photos of how you built the section above the transom
Obviously the parts fit into the top of the transom but did you narrow them tofit the cross pieces
Its a difficult build
It looks really good

it was aimed at keefs a he has done such incredible work
the kit is amazing but the instructions are virtually non existant
the plan shows pieces below the ports but also shows side pieces - cant wok out if they are provided

But Keith obviously had no issues with the instructions,at least I didn’t noticed that he complained about it
