HMS Diana by Caldercraft

Hello iutar!

Thank you very much for your feedback. I will do it as you say.... The rope was only temporary, just to see if the rope through the holes I drilled in the hull were big enough..
On the other hand, I found the photo of the Diana attached on the internet...
In principle it is as shown in the diagram....and as already said I will implement it like this (later)..

Marc

Good morning Mark. Wow this is really good. Congratulations with this marvellous build. Apologies for all the likes however I had to play some catch up here. Cheers Grant

Now I've done something crazy.
You see, I spend a lot of time making the gun deck as nice as possible.
But, once the Main deck has been placed, you won't see it anymore. I have been wondering for a long time how I could install lighting without damage...
I bought a few sets of LED lights on Amazon...for a few Euros.
I then drilled a 4 mm hole in the stern bottom as I saw that this hole would end up in the cavity next to the rudder.
One more hole in the fitting and all I had to do was push the very thin LEDs with wiring through the holes and done! Later I will glue the pieces to the support beams... If they ever break, I can easily remove the wires along the rudder... And finally light!!!!!!!!!!!

Gentlemen,

I have an urgent and important question.
I can't find the dimensions of the ropes for rigging the 18 pounder anywhere in the spec.
I only find many contradictions on the internet.
Can someone provide me with quick and accurate information?
Gun Tackle
Breech Line
Outhaul Tackle
Scale HMS Diana = 1/64

Thx

Marc

@AllanKP69 Allan is your best bet.

Very Fast!

Thx a lot!

In addition to the chart referenced above which covers from about 1730-1780 from what I have found to now the gun tackle in 1716 was 2.5 inches for 24 pounders and larger, 2 inches for 18 pounders and smaller. The blocks were 8 or 6.5 inch accordingly. By the 1780s the ropes were 3 inches for 24 pounders, 2.5 inches for 18 and 12 pounders, and 2 inches for smaller than 12 pounders. The breechings for Diana would be as shown on the chart or very close.

Thx Allan,
It helps.

There were officers' cabins there. This means that you can open the covers of the gun ports and insert windows. Make the same bulkhead and then you can simplify the guns.

You are to be admired for searching for answers in your build. Kudos! Closing the ports or not is totally up to you.

The 1.5mm hole for the main sheet seems odd. According to the original plans and contemporary model every other top timber extends as in the pictures below and they are not closed in. Some form timberheads and some extend to where the rail rests. The top timbers that extend to the bottom of the rail is different on the 1793 drawing than the 1794 model, but neither has them closed in. Do you have a contemporary plan of any of the Diana/Artois class that shows them closed in with a hole? If a line passes through a plain hole there would be problems. If there was such a hole wouldn't it have a sheave so the rope is not be rubbing against the planking.

Survey: your opinion please.
Would you close the three GUN ports (see plan) or make the Guns visible?

Good morning Mark. My preference would be to have guns. For no other reason than I think it looks more appealing- keeps a symmetrical look to the model. On my Victory I had them closed and often when I view it I think it would look cool to have had guns there. Cheers Grant

Thanks for your advice. But I don't know yet. I'm not averse to the idea of the windows. After all, that's how it was before and in case of a fight the windows were removed and the Guns were driven out. At the moment I think it would be cool to show one side the Guns and the other side the windows.

Ok?

Windows will allow you to continue experimenting with electric lighting. It'll be cool. Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup

Making one side this way and the other side another is unsightly and will look stupid.Thumbsdown
