HMS Diana by Caldercraft

I have been working on the ratlines for 1 1/2 weeks now. And the result is really not satisfying. I try to tie the ratlines as tightly as possible between the schrouds. But using 0.25mm wire makes tightening it extra difficult. If you pull too hard, you tighten the schrouds too tightly and they end up almost right next to each other. If you leave the ratlings too loose, you get arches... after wiring a row, I apply CA Glue here and there to straighten the wire a bit. But this is also not easy.
I also respect very carefully the spacing of 6 mm between them...as specified... Sick

Love that you tied off the inboard end of the upper stunsail booms in addition to having the boom irons. Rarely see this except on contemporary models, well done.

From your pictures your shrouds look very loose, I think you are going to run into the same issues no matter what unless the shrouds have some more tension. Also I find it easier to install the catharpins and futtocks shrouds first before the ratlines, they also help prevent the shrouds from moving around by tensioning them.

Yes, thanks for the advice.
Maybe the schrouds are not tight enough...(I thought they were but..).
It's too late now but I'll pay extra attention to it next time.

PS
In my previous project (USS Constitution) I used 0.5 mm rope instead of 0.25 mm. And this is much better and looks much tighter. Maybe use 0.5 mm next time?

Your shrouds and ratlines look good for the winds your ship will sail in on display.

I am sure in real life they would and could adjust shroud tension as the need arises.

Good evening Marc. Lovely progress with the rigging. Looks very good. Those shroud cleats are the pits. I remember on my Victory I only did a few of them and made a plan B. o_O. Cheers Grant
Thx Grant,

The annoying thing is that you have to tie the cleats to the shroud with 2 ropes of 0.25mm..
What I mean is more knots on top of each other and it gradually becomes a thick knot.

The cleats are a pain in the neck, especially if they are to scale. Typically the overall length was seven times the thickness of the rope, with each arm one-third of the length, and the middle part, where bolted, twice the thickness in breadth.
