I also have a problem with cherry wood, so i buy a cherry wood handle scale set for knifemaking. Each cube costs about $5, and it's enough for a lot of work in modeling. You can match diffrent variants of colour, shape like cube, flat strip etc. and its ready to cut and super cheap.

I always look for second hand furniture of cherry wood. The most you find is from European Cherry and sometimes it's an old table for free.

Those pump housings turned out great. Are you sure they won't work? If you want I can measure the ones I built on the Kingfisher for comparison...

If you redo, I'm sure there will be some improvements, but they look pretty darn good as is.

Good morning. I decided to scratch build (the kit only provides hand pumps) some chain pump housing. My plan is to have one covered and one open. I will attempt to 3D design and print the wheel and chain in the one housing.
I don’t have much cherry wood to play with so they are made from scraps hence some unusual wood joins..

Hmmmmm ! I clearly cannot convert inches to mm as these are too small. . Redo time again. My modelling is failing me at present . OH well let’s see what attempt 2 will bring.

PS my wales are on hold until I source some wood to do the top and butt planking method as the wood in the kit is too narrow. Eish.

Can't say anything sensible about the scale, but scratch building is fun. Redo is an integral part of it; one can make drawings/sketches all you like, but the proof of the pudding is in the actual build part/assembly. Then all the flaws of your tinkering come to the surface and every once in a while one has to admit defeat and start again.
Your handiwork looks great though.

Good morning, Grant. For the best reference, it's best to place them on the model. That sometimes softens the judgment. I do like the fact that you are more and more build in scratch.

Good morning Peter. That is good advice. They did not look too bad when I first put them on the deck however when I put the main "bits" on it was immediately evident these would not work. Anyway some of my wood joins especially by the sliding mechanism are not good, so a redo was probably always on the cards.

They look great. How much too small. Would it be noticable?

Some dealers have 'pen blanks', which are smaller but often very nicely sawn and selected material.

Good morning Gentlemen. Thanks for this. In SA there is a company called rare woods which has some awesome wood. My problem is I don't have any power tools so to cut by hand is a tad difficult for me. They do cut some wood but not small enough for modelling. I may give it a go out of necessity . For me to import product is just silly expensive as our tariffs are worse than Trumps .Cheers Grant

Good morning Paul. Thank you for this. That would be of great help. I will try get the conversion from inches to mm correct. . Once upon a time many years ago in a galaxy far far away I did math and statistics at university and now I can't even convert inches to mm.

True story Johan. It is more fun building scratch parts and redo's definitely are part of the equation.
