HMS Fly (Amati) 1:64 Robertd [COMPLETED BUILD]

Decided to use black for the Dead eyes and lanyards , so more authentic and blend in perfectly , not all done though , haven’t finished the Rat lines , for a change of scenery finished the Main Royal Stay , Main top gallant Stay , Top mast Stay and preventer , next will be the Mizzen Mast with Stays and … more Rat lines !

Great work Rob. Your build is coming beautifully! A Happy new Year to you, your family and loved ones, my friend!

I particularly like your last photo (left) - very authentic looking.

I'm sure we won't be too deep into 2023 before we see the Fly done and dusted and a new model paraded on the Pittwater :)

Thanks Mark for your comment , all the best for this year , Stays and preventers nearly done , still a few more rat lines and move towards the running rigging and yards , it is just such a pleasure to see the overall progress , I am sure you feel the same with your ‘Fly’ , Rob

working on the Yards , started Fore Topgallant , Fore Topsail and Fore Yard , with the added Stunsail booms , to ascertain each position I drilled a pin hole , the yards are still unattached as many blocks have to be added , but it means a correct position for the parrel rib around the masts
Just looking better and better all the time Thumbsup

Thanks Mark , the amount of rigging is mind boggling, sometimes you forget the sequence of the rigging process , for instance the Fore Topgallant / Royal Tye , Fore Topsail Yard Tye, anyway managed to rig them , would have been easier with the yards unattached , ‘Rigging period Ship Models ‘ is a great help to get things right

Hi Robert. When I first saw a picture of the HMS Fly model I was struck by the amount of rigging it had. This was of course one of the big attractions that made me buy the kit in the first place, little thinking that I'm the one who will need to string all of that rigging together . You seem to be getting through it pretty well though. I do have the 'Rigging period Ship Models' book on hand, yet to be opened or read, so it's good to know that it was a wise purchase Thumbsup

Fore topsail yard Tye, Top Gallant / Royal Tye hallmarks completed , a few more rat lines , I use Indian Ink on the ratlines , when dry makes it easier to cut any excess thread with some nail clippers , tidy up here and there part of the process , close ups unforgivable I am afraid , next will be the Spritsail yards and top sail yards and that leaves us for a break , we have planned a 4/5 day road trip from Sydney to Coober Pedy in South Australia ( 2100 km) , driving down , staying in the outback of Australia overnight.
