HMS Fly (Amati) 1:64 Robertd [COMPLETED BUILD]

Just came back from a lovely break yesterday , interesting all the way through the outback to South Australia , anyway the ‘Fly’ is waiting patiently so far , I will address the Spritsail Yard and topsail yard to do something instead of rigging, you wonder to get the vessel on and off the pedestals , instead of screws
I use long nails through the pedestals into the drilled keel , also you can bend the nail for a perfect fit and it will be strong enough to hold the vessel

Working on the Jib Boom & Flying Jib Boom , Yards etc , a lot of detail and rigging where are they going to be lashed ? sometimes you wonder how they managed in those days , and in this case no sails

Good afternoon Robert. She is looking great. The rigging is insane in these ships. One line at a time and before you know it it looks like a birds nest o_O. Funnily I thought the same thing when rigging my Victory. How on earth did they managed to sail and then turn about or God forbid jibe. In the Victory there were 800 crew and I can’t imagine how the organised this . (Only half were on a shift but even so). Cheers Grant

exactly ! not only that only 2 windlasses on this ‘Fly’ so all of it. to be man handled and extra work with the Stunsails , the ‘Cutty Sark and Thermopylae used to have them , but with so many accidents and extra crew required they abandon them ,just not worth it
 
Take your time my friend. The rigging on the Fly is one of her distinguishing features.

Thanks Mark , yes never boring and don’t take that for granted , just came back from South Australia ( Port Augusta , Port Lincoln ) even had to wear a jumper ! back here , the humidity asks for the A/C switched on ,just the difference of climate in this vast country and greenery
 
part of the Foremast finished , still more sail rigging to go , but will work on the Mizzenmast as from now on

Good morning Rob. Your topping lifts look great. I see you also went for the “hanging” brace blocks (much consternation to some modelers who believe the blocks are actually attached to the yard) however I think they look way better this way and there is evidence that this is actually authentic. I do like the “untidy” rope coils and the effect you are getting on the deck. You are owning this . Marvellous Rob. Cheers Grant

Thanks Grant , I like the way the yards are secured , somehow running out of blocks , will have to get some more at some stage , am always in ‘research’ mode to get it as authentic as possible , bear in mind that the set up might be slightly different on each vessel, also I am not worried about some stains on the deck and or yards , these vessels are Man of War and not some show pony
