HMS Fly (Amati) 1:64 Robertd [COMPLETED BUILD]

Are you still planning to build the Duyfken in the foreseeable future, Robert? She is such a beautiful little ship!

I purchased this book,’Rigging period ship models’ by Lennarth Peterson , a must for the serious modeller , easy explained drawings , must admit the Amati plans are good , however sometimes you need a more detailed explanation , also in hindsight I should have left the Mizen top mast , Main Top mast , fore top mast till all the shrouds are in place , however I still managed to tie the pairs of shrouds together .

I have the same book Robert, although I have yet to read it. I bought it after my first model with the express intent of unwrapping the art and mysteries of rigging. That is, which rope goes where and what happens when you pull it. I didn't realise that the entire book is a collection of drawings, no detailed explanations. But it is highly rated, and I'm glad to hear that you found it useful. You must have, as your ship is coming along in leaps and bounds and looking better with every posting Thumbsup

I work with both plans and book , the more information the better , look I make mistakes that had to be rectified especially the eye blocks 3mm instead of 5mm etc , no big deal I just have to change that so now and then , I hate it to leave it and not addressing , anyway have a great time in Suid Afrika , we were going there in 2020 o/b the QM2 en route from Fremantle to Southampton when Cunard pulled the plug because of the Pandemic , my wife with my help booked all sort of tours , wine tasting in Stellenbosch , rural townships you name it , not to happen , during my sailing career I called on every port in SA more so when posted on a Durban registered vessel the ‘Safocean Albany ‘ operated by a consortium of Safmarine and a Dutch company Royal Interocean Lines based in Amsterdam, there you go.

Wow, that is interesting. Small world indeed, I used to work for the Safmarine shipping company in Cape Town a number of years ago. Sorry you missed out on your trip, especially on the QE2, what a trip that would have been. Hopefully you get another opportunity soon. Chances are you would have missed your onward voyage to Southampton anyway, especially if you were booked on a wine tour of Stellenbosch beforehand ROTF

Good morning Robert. I totally agree with you . Those 5mm blocks must go. They do look way to big on the deck. I must say that is a beautiful book. I love the large illustration- they say a picture is worth a 1000 word- clearly evidence here. Pity you didn’t get down here to CTN. Next time. Cheers Grant
