HMS Fly (Amati) 1:64 Robertd [COMPLETED BUILD]

I'm glad to see you're OK and happy to see the progress on the Fly! I was wondering why you were so quiet last week! :)
With all a distances family wise , Rosie’s boys living in London , she went over for a month recently , this hobby and building ships keeps me sane and loving it , I am sure with likewise minds on this forum

Sorry folks , been away for a week visiting my daughters and grandchildren in Melbourne , so the yard was closed but finished the 2nd planking and also planked the wales as with Mark took the measurements and distance from the lowest point on the Gun ports , I noticed he did the wales first , the rudder post at the moment a dry fit , also I added a 1x4mm strip in front of the rudder post to make it look neater , I noticed a similar set up in other posts , what you see is the “Raw Hull‘ no filler just some sanding , I might use sanding filler before painting and varnish .

Great work Robert! Now I know I'll never be able to keep up with you ROTF. I did the wale first as I thought it might be better to get the painting of the wale out of the way before applying the second layer of planking, but I don't think it'll make any real difference. Your rudder looks great, and has started to make your model look like a real ship now Thumbsup

Thanks Mark for your comments , actually there are various ways to approach the build , With the 2nd planking I decided to let the planks follow the natural curve and that means stealers !also I use sanding sealer before a final coat , Bunnings is selling the stuff if you want to use it.

A bit more work on the ‘Fly’ I messed up the space initially to accomodate the brass decorations , so had to dismantle the 2mm strips and start again , I used a gold paint marker instead of paint to colour the brass decoration .the front end is quite a challenge and will take my time to address that part .

Wow - another modeler has been painting waterlines! Very good progress Robert - you really build fast!

Robert that is remarkable progress. Unfortunately I was unable to keep pace with you. Far from it actually, thanks to work commitments. I last left off at the start of the second planking layer and have yet to progress, waiting for quieter times again. At least now I have your build log as a reference! Well done Thumbsup

Thanks Mark for your comment, yes I am in a fortunate position as a retired Master Mariner to spend time on the hobby I love ( apart from being a culinary chef at home !) mistakes on the way to be rectified for sure , but that is the way it goes , as long as you are happy with the result

Also Mark , there is no rush or competition just enjoy what you are doing

Test fit the masts , fitted the rails aft , so a little more progress , I liked the Vanguard 28ft Pinnace so decided to build that in between , the oars are still drying with their coating, next time !

Good morning Robert. Lovely progress. Your pinnace looks great. I do like the decorations on the Fly around the bow and bulkwards. Cheers Grant

Wonderful work Robert against the backdrop of your wonderful scenery. The Fly is really a beautiful ship with very pleasing lines!
