HMS Fly (Amati) 1:64 Robertd [COMPLETED BUILD]

Yes , Yes , mashed potato Heinrich , it is an easy to prepare meal , anyway I love doing this sort of thing , my other is Indonesian , brought up and served in both Navy and Merchant Marine a weekly tradition as you are building ships in the Dutch East India trade or Spice trade in those days , must say it takes me days to prepare , the various Nasi ( Rice) and other delicious dishes , you name it.
Good afternoon Robert. I’m having some mates over to watch rugby on Saturday- maybe you can pop over to Cape Town and be chef for meROTF. I see Australia and the all blacks played as poorly as SA yesterday- we all lost to the Brits, Irish and wales. Bad day for us Southern Hemisphere chapsCautious. Cheers Grant

NZ is in Mouning and deep lamentation.

The 1st planking so far , haven’t used any filler at this point , the electric bender works like a breeze , I just soak the plank for a couple of minutes and the bender will take care of the shape straight away ,and ready for glueing , fitted the stern fascia and dry fit the rudder and rudder post , I let the planks follow their natural curve around the hull as much as possible

Good morning Robert- spot on! Going to look good for sure. In the one pic I saw the rudder installed prior to the planks and I was thinking how on earth are you going to plank around that? The it disappeared ROTF. Cheers Grant

1657866855178.pngYour planking is looking great so far Robert, and a handy checkpoint for me to see whether I'm on the right track :)

That was an interesting modification near the bow. Is that what is called a drop plank? I can see myself needing a few of those when I run out of room ...

Looking forward to all the rest, good luck Thumbsup

Looking very good, my friend. Thumbsup That is a very nice and solid base on which to do the second planking.

Thanks Heinrich , just dry fit the rudder post and rudder , see what it looks like , I will have to smooth the stern planking for a correct fit , working on that one , actually what I have in mind is Contact Adhesive for the 2nd planking , it worked on the Cutty Sark , however a try

Robert, good afternoon.
I follow your work, and your level is constantly growing.
In this regard, I will allow myself one recommendation for installing the steering wheel. The yellow line is where you now have the axis of attachment and steering canopy. It will be correct if it passes where the red line is marked with arrows. In any case, you decide, but such small details increase the level of construction of the model.3BB98F40-6236-4AF8-AE00-1A92C6AF2E6F.jpeg

you made a very good basis for the second planking - looking very good

Sorry folks , been away for a week visiting my daughters and grandchildren in Melbourne , so the yard was closed but finished the 2nd planking and also planked the wales as with Mark took the measurements and distance from the lowest point on the Gun ports , I noticed he did the wales first , the rudder post at the moment a dry fit , also I added a 1x4mm strip in front of the rudder post to make it look neater , I noticed a similar set up in other posts , what you see is the “Raw Hull‘ no filler just some sanding , I might use sanding filler before painting and varnish .

I'm glad to see you're OK and happy to see the progress on the Fly! I was wondering why you were so quiet last week! :)
