HMS GRANADO 1:48 scale PoF CAF Model by Keith

It is very interesting to see a Granado build not cut
The order of construction is completely different to mine - Very good work and interesting log

Hi Uwe. I am very happy there are ''cut'' and ''uncut'' versions of this kit running alongside each other in the build log section of this site. As you mentioned the sequence of the build is different as the uncut version is less complicated as it is not so dependent on working out what needs to go in the upper or lower sections of the hull, the building process all follows along systematically as per the instruction manual. l, like everybody else am much impressed with your splendid version of this kit and wish you every success when you display it at the exhibition in September. l'm sure it will be a showstopper.

My personal opnion is, that both versions, cut and / or uncut, have the same level of difficulty !!!
Only the order of the building process is different .
Defintely, this or that way, the Granado is not a model for a beginner

The mortar bed beams are now complete over both fore and aft shot racks making a very sturdy assembly for the support of the 2 mortars carried on this vessel. Each of the beams are 7mm square which when scaled up would measure roughly 15 inches in imperial measure. (As it is an English built ship). That's a lot of wood. Next, I will add the support brackets and give it the Clou treatment to finish this part of the build . . .

Welcome to my build log and thanks for your interest and likes. I am now in the process of preparing the forward lower platform deck. l have progressed slightly differently to the suggested method in the instruction manual of making and positioning the deck beams. The platform deck will only be half planked to show the beamwork below. It is important, before installing the deck, to check the position of the windlass columns as they should join on to the 2nd main deck beam and fit in between 2 of the lower deck beams in a horizontal position so all your previous work with the deck clamp positions up to now have to be right. l shall add the tree nails and fit a coming round the hatch before finally installing the deck

Very good progress - and we can see that you have a lot of fun with this model Thumbsup
Thanks Uwe. As l've said all along, l really love working on this kit. lt's not easy by any means but is great therapy to keep my hands and mind working

After a lot of fine tuning (I really struggled to get the platform deck to fit how l wanted it) the deck is finally installed. l pieced together and dry fitted the windlass assembly to make sure it is horizontal and in the right position when it is permanently fitted at a later date. The separating wall and coaming for the hatch are also done.

A productive day spent in the workshop. With the addition of the breast hook , the forward platform deck compartment has been Clou'd. The ladder for the hatch leading to the coal hole is made, and l have begun work on the cabin walls for this section of the ship. Templates are provided for each wall or bulkhead to help get the shape and sizes right. Every strip needs sanding to remove the laser char and reduce their width very slightly as they are all minutely oversize. A bit of a job as these pieces are very small.
