HMS GRANADO 1:48 scale PoF CAF Model by Keith

The planking and hatchway of the quarterdeck cabin bulkhead is done. This will be a completely ''skeletonised'' model, so l have decided not to include any deck planking of the upper decks. lt may not appeal to everyone but l love the unobstructed view of the lower cabins and beam structure.

Excellent decision to keep the bare bones look Keef.

Looking great bud. Thinking of possibly building one. We’ll see though of course !
Thank you very much Tony. You did a great job on the Blandford cross section. l would love to know what you decide. It would be a great choice now flying season is over for a while :)

Thanks yes. The planes kept me away from ships. Won’t be building planes next year I have plenty that need trimming to fly right, that’s a job in itself.

Carrying on with the superstructure, the quarterdeck rail, hatch coaming and stairs down to the cabin area are now made up and fitted. Also the two masts together with the wedges are now in place. This is the first kit I have come across where the wedges are made of separate elements instead of one one round shaped piece fitted at the bottom of the mast. It adds a very good touch of realism to the model although I did find it a challenge to get the eight individual wedges shaped to fit in between the base of the masts and the upper deck. In the end I don't think they´ve turned out too bad. A nice feature by CAF Model. I have also sanded the bowsprit but not actually fitted it in place as l think at this stage it could actually get in the way and can be easily be knocked and damage the bow section. l have painted the quarterdeck rail black, as l plan to paint all the rails black. These, apart from the wales, will be the only parts painted on my model
